Alkaline Trio – Armageddon Lyrics 16 years ago
I think it's a mixture of Cadillac and Cocaine's posts. Like about the photograph and sending it back and then the bar and last call and failed relationships. Love the song regardless. Just has that true emotional attach to me. Everytime I hear it I get this sense of nostalgia and kinda feel down. Regretful maybe...

Before reading this, I never would have thought about it, but I actually agree with you. The whole Last Call thing fits perfectly in with Matt's personality, thoughts, and writing style. Awesome post, man. Digg it.

Alkaline Trio – This Addiction Lyrics 16 years ago
This album will undoubtedly be awesome, but the only thing about them going back to their roots, is that we won't hear anything NEW. You know? I love it that they're trying to resusitate that old sound though. I deff missed it after Crimson and A and I. The lyrics to this song are mediocre as compared to the rest of the Trio's shit. Like, in A and I, I thought Matt's lyrics kind of dragged, whereas early on, it was Dan's lyrics who kind of dragged. These are sort of short and...not as emotional?...as lines like "at least we're still friends..." or something.

Regardless, I still love this song, the Trio, and am frantically waiting for the release of this album. They can't make a bad album...

Matt Skiba – Next To You Lyrics 16 years ago
I kind of wish it was "awful." It'd give the song a whole new perspective.

I think Skiba was into a lot of drugs, so I wouldn't second guess the drug theme.

I gave up on trying to decipher Skiba's lyrics to the way he wrote it. I kind of now just decipher them to meet my current feelings and shit like that. Although I do like Skiba's lyrical intentions.

He's the fucking man.

The Cure – Cut Here Lyrics 16 years ago
Hits home on everybody that listens to it. It's been stuck in my head for a few days, so I had to learn to play it. Robert Smith is one hell of a musician.

(sorry about all the posts, I guess you can't 'edit' anymore?)

It's a great song, too, by the way. One of the most well-written, emotional songs I think I've ever heard.

Alkaline Trio just did a cover of this song. Great cover, as well.

The Cure – Cut Here Lyrics 16 years ago
This was posted by an anonymous person on Lyricinterpretations. I think it sums it up. I haven't seen a better explination.

Here:

"Cut here" was written for a friend of the band (Billy McKenzie) who committed suicide in 97. Robert Smith believed it would be the last song written by the band, therefore the title.
It's about two best friends grown apart with time, who meet again by coincidence. One friend is really happy to see the other and greets him warmly ("Three long years and your favorite man, is that anyway to say hello?! And you hold me... Like you'll never let me go..."), expecting to "sit down and talk a while". But the other is busy with daily obligations and asks to postpone it. But the friend knows they really won't have another chance to grow close again, as they are already distant:
"And over my shoulder as I walk away I see you give that look goodbye"
Looking back, the other regrets being busy with things that didn't really matter like an old friend does, and not stopping and taking the time to enjoy and cultivate their friendship. He regrets not making time for his friend so he could go on with his routine, always betting there would be time for them to catch up in the future, after everything was taken care of... "Until later doesn't always come." And it didn't come, for both the band and the subject in the song.
So, the song is about this person thinking back and bitterly regretting not doing more for their friendship, and also how he misses his friend and how he really liked him, now that he thinks of it.
I think the most heartbreaking pieces are:
"It's so hard to think it ends some time
And this could be the last
I should really hear you sing again
I should really watch you dance
Because it's hard to think I'll never get another chance
To hold you... To hold you."
"I miss you
I miss you
I miss you
I miss you
I miss you
I miss you so much...
How many times can I walk away and wish 'if only'?
How many times can we talk this way and wish 'if only'?
Keep on making the same mistake
Keep on aching the same heartbreak
'I wish', 'if only'...
But 'if only' is a wish too late..."
This is where he says that people always put daily schedule and obligations and chores in front of enjoying a friend's company, and so they keep growing apart from each other and becoming simply acquaintances, suffering the same heartbreak over and over... This song is ultimately about how you never know what tomorrow may bring, so you should enjoy and take care of the people you love while you still have them with you, because you never know which hug will be the last.

Alkaline Trio – Good Fucking Bye Lyrics 17 years ago
I actually read some interview somewhere, it's actually about ALL OF THE ABOVE.

When he was deep into drugs, Matt had a girlfriend that did drugs with him alot. Eventually, he checked into rehab to quit cause he realized how deep he was, and his girlfriend kept doing them. So Matt had to break up with her to stay away from drugs...and alcohol.

And his style is like "Get the fuck out of here" break-up stuff. And that's what he used in the song, even though in real life he probably wasn't mad at her, just mad that he had to leave her to stay sober.

The end.

I think this was an intro they did for their shows last tour or so...not a song, I don't think.

It's about finding someone and thinking they're perfect for you, and you have a great relationship...then they turn out to be an asshole and use you for shit.

This song is from Dan Adriano's split with Mike Fumelee (or however you spell it) off of Asian Man Records.

It's one of Dan's songs. Not Trio's.

Alkaline Trio – Sundials Lyrics 17 years ago
Yeah, I relate to this song fucking closely too. Just got out of a relationship like that, and currently feel like shit. Haha, but it's songs like these that lift you up and are like "Fuck, Matt Skiba went through this same shit and look at him!" and you go out and smoke.

Alkaline Trio – Weak Week Lyrics 17 years ago
Aren't the lyrics on the Goddammit Redux? I should buy that...

I think this songs about tripping. Like:

"Some days the walls look greener"
When you trip, colors stand out more. Red's seem redder, blues bluer, etc.

and

"Even if bugs turn into people..."
Hallucinating that bugs are turning into people and what not.

Obviously I don't think the WHOLE song is about tripping, but I think there are evidences of it in there, plus Matt used to be deep into drugs, not sure if he still uses them though...but I don't think.

I seriously love this song. I need that new REDUX. They comment on the songs in there too.

Anyone know what they comment for this song? Maybe in the DVD?
