I honestly don't see there being much meaning behind this song, they just tried to make a catchy diddy (hence the use of counting) and boy oh boy did they succeed. If I had to squeeze an interpretation though, I'd say it's a continuation of the entire album's chaotic theme (second law of thermodynamics/entropy) and how inciting chaos is a way to make human beings feel in control -- especially under a totalitarian regime. |

This is one of my favourite songs of all time, it's absolutely perfect lyrically. In my opinion, like others have said, the song is simply about an unrequited love. It's about falling so deeply and madly in love with a woman, only to find out that what you thought were mutual feelings, actually was just innuendo. And the end result being so crushing that thoughts of suicide seem almost comforting. The girl schools you, so to say, on the most painful subject there is: love. |
