| Streetlight Manifesto – The Saddest Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |

"it's been years since i've seen her face, 14 years were just erased if my life was your life, would you ever take it back?" anyone else think this could be a reference to Kristina Behr of "Kristina She Dont Know I Exist" i think that this means that Tomas (or whoever the songs about) finally did get the courage to ask her out and she said no and he blocked it out: "but i don't know what she said i still don't know what she said" |

| Streetlight Manifesto – Down Down Down to Mephisto's Cafe Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I think that there are a couple of lyrical similarities between A Better Place, A Better Time and Down, Down, Down, to Mephisto's Cafe. It feels like DDTOMC... is a reflection a few years after the what happened with Annie in ABP,ABT: "you've got to stop and draw a line and everyone here has to choose a side tonight" "He said you'll never have to choose a side It's rewarding but oh, the road is hard... They broke him wide open" In Down he understands that Annie HAD to choose a side and it would have been futile not to. He knew that the their relationship would not be the same either way and accepts this. "Annie says 'oh, this loneliness is killing me it's filling me with anger and resentment (resentment)' Annie says 'I'm turning into someone that I never thought I'd have to be again' " "Don't crack, because you might not make it back And if you do you will be alone and you can't live like that Well I know when I'm wrong and I sure as hell ain't wrong this time" Tomas didn't want "Annie" to change her identity for him and offers more feelings of acceptance. "well don't it's not your time and even if it was I wouldn't let you go" "Believe it's true, we were never meant to fly And I owe you, I know you more than anyone alive And I will not let go" Tomas will always be there for Annie even years after the fact, and these lyrics both have an undertone of longing for what might have been. |
