Of Monsters And Men – Little Talks Lyrics 12 years ago
I believe it's actually:
Some days I feel like I'm wrong when I am right
Your mind is playing tricks on you my dear

As for my interpretation, I really think the woman is bipolar. It's hard to explain all the emotions that a bipolar person goes through, but it's difficult to say the least. There's a lot of indecision, half of her wants him but the other half doesn't. Unfortunately, the guy just seems to get dragged around.

Mark didn't write this; this is a John Denver cover.

Sun Kil Moon – Young Love Lyrics 12 years ago
"When February rains I've gone another year
Chasing perfect poems and trying them in your ear
But I'm losing the will to chase them anymore
Across those lonesome oceans"

I managed to get to that part before losing it. Just wow. One of the best songs to listen to on a bleak, cold winter's night. Mesmerizing is too tame a word here.

I know exactly what you mean. It eats me up and spits me out, every single time.

Stars – Personal Lyrics 12 years ago
Firstly, I think the instrumental pieces after Caroline's messages to Single M are intentional, he's in no hurry to reply. Whereas Caroline's instant replies reveal vulnerability, a bit of desperation and some insecurities.

Single M has mixed emotions. After Caronline's first reply to him, you feel he's trying to reassure her in his message, but at the same time, voicing some of his own concerns "These things can be scary / Not always what you want". This can be taken two ways: 1. he's a player and is trying to bring her around. 2. he has his own issues. But most likely, a bit of both. He ends his reply to her with "I'll call you first I guess" ensuring (in his mind) that he remains in control of things and dictates how fast/far things progress.

Caroline replies again, revealing even more vulnerabilities and a lot of insecurities. The fast paced nature of her reply pretty much reveals all her cards to him whereas he's a lot more guarded with his emotions and personal information throughout (intentionally so, obviously). Single M realizes she expects him to help her overcome these issues and he isn't able to reassure her this time for whatever reason. Maybe he feels guilty, that he took on more than he can chew. This is obviously a woman who pours her heart out without the least bit of motivation, so he isn't sure how to handle her.

He doesn't reply to her the second time, but he does go to their meeting spot. He recognizes her from the picture she sent him, they make eye contact, she doesn't know it's him (can't be sure) but she feels it all the same. He can see so much emotion/hurt in her eyes, and he knows that he's made a mistake, that he can't use her for his own (possibly selfish) motives (sex, casual relationship).

Caroline's last message to him, after she was stood up, comes across more angry than hurt at first, but then crumbles apart near the end where she feels they made a connection and could have been, but didn't happen.

Both of the characters come with their issues, the man comes across as a commitment-phobic (or possibly a guy burnt by another woman) whereas the woman reveals she's vulnerable and trying to overcome hurt that was probably caused by someone like Single M in the first place. In the end though, Single M is left battling his own demons with, "Is it you or me?" -- who's to blame for his inability to see things through? Was it him or her?

It's amazing how such a simple song can convey such powerful and strong emotions from both sides. Heart breaking but earth shatteringly stunning.

Angus and Julia Stone – I'm Not Yours Lyrics 13 years ago
The girl feels increasingly unappreciated in a relationship, and she keeps making a promise to herself not to go back to the guy because he's only interested in sex; he's not emotionally involved, he's not going to give her more and he finds it all too easy to leave her behind when he's taken what he wants.

She doesn't have anyone else to go to, though, no one else who cares about her one way or another. No one else who even cares if she's dead or alive....so she keeps going back to him, but "I'm not yours anymore" is probably her way of saying that she's no more his than he is hers. They're both in it for sex only; no emotions, no trust, no hopes or dreams of a future anymore.

The National – Slipping Husband Lyrics 13 years ago
Possibly one of the most haunting and emotional songs for me. I remember I listened non-stop to SSFDL after I broke up with my boyfriend and this would have me in tears, every time. At least during the first week. By the second week, my misery turned into anger and bitterness and I really appreciated Matt's angry vocals (Available was another hit for me during that period).

I don't even think it's really about "marriage" per se, it's about a relationship that can crumble apart because of selfishness and burn-out, because one person just stops trying to be the person he can be or stops caring about things that really matter--you, your relationship, the family, etc.

Male or female, you'll be able to relate to this song if you've ever been in a relationship that died out because of one person's selfishness or mere lack of effort.

Handsome Boy Modeling School – I've Been Thinking (feat. Cat Power) Lyrics 13 years ago
Sexy and sultry sure, but it's also a very deep, meaningful and SAD song. The girl is repeatedly asking him to be her boy, that she wants him sexually even, but at the same time stressing that she can't be bought. She'll go willingly and not on his terms. She wants him, but not to the extent where she will lose her self-respect and dignity to be with him (You can try / But you can't buy me & 'Cause I'll never be / On my knees). They come from two different worlds and in the end she feels like being with him makes her lose control and turns her into someone she doesn't recognize herself as. His pride may be coming between them, and she finally decides that maybe it's time to let go...

Cat Power's vocals are definitely sexy, but the song is actually kind of sad.

The National – Slow Show Lyrics 17 years ago
It’s about someone who’s really uncomfortable in public around people, maybe a little a-social and there’s a girl who makes him feel normal, loved and comfortable. He feels out of place, like he doesn’t fit where he is, he probably feels embarrassed, a little like an alien. And he wants to go home to that one person he can be himself around and feel good about it. That one person that makes him feel normal and sane. He’s been dreaming of having this person in his life since he was born, probably referring to a life full of insecurities and doubts about people and he found the person who finally understands him and accepts him.
