The original 2pac beat is much better than the one we all know. They altered most of his unreleased songs after he died and never published the original ones. Look up letter 2 my unborn OG on youtube and be amazed. I'm agry that they never released his original work. |

| Tupac Shakur – Mama's Just a Little Girl Lyrics

One of Tupac's greatest works in my opinion. I wish every American would hear this song and truly understand it. Because it seems like so many people think that people from the ghetto are simply poor because they're lazy. America seems to have no compassion for the poor. Just think we all could have been born into the circumstances this girl was. It could have just as easily been you or me. |

| Tupac Shakur – Keep Ya Head Up Lyrics

About the contradictions in Tupac's songs, you have to understand that Tupac was a person that was made and raised by the ghetto. It shaped him into a person that inhereted the evils of the ghetto. It made him into a angry and sometimes violent person. BUT, Tupac was different from other ''thugs'', if you will, because he understood WHY he was that person. Many people in the ghetto have a very shallow understanding of the world around them, because they're never challenged to think. Tupac did think. He was a ghetto genius, with flaws. But you can't blame him for those flaws. I mean who can grow to be a perfect person from the conditions he came from? He had a beautiful metaphor for this, which was the rose that grew from concrete. The rose has damaged pedals from growing in such a harsh environment, but nobody would think ''what an ugly rose look how fucked up its pedals are'', you would celebrate its will to live. Tupac was truly the rose that grew from concrete. Eventually though his lifetsyle that was taught to him by the ghetto caught up to him and he died at 25, like many people in the ghetto do. We should forgive Tupac for his life of crime, "Don't blame me, I was given this world, I didn't make it". |

| Tupac Shakur – Until the End of Time Lyrics

You need to change the way you listen to a rap song in order to appreciate it. Look at it more as if it were poetry. People who are used to listening to rock tend to look for great guitar solo's or vocal skills. Rap is more about lyrics. A good song to study the lyrics of would be 'Mama's Just A Lil' Girl'. It tells a heartbreaking story in a beautiful way. |

livinlikeimfromDC, I'm sorry but I think the refferal to Eminem is a little far fetched, the line from Lose Yourself is
''Teeter totter, caught up between being a father and a prima donna.
Baby mama drama screamin' on me too much
for me to wanna stay in one spot"
So the similarity is left with only ''baby mama'' which is a very common phrase. The link works, but I don't think Lupe intended it. I love the rest of the stuff you came up with though. |

Yeah I think you're right on the idea that he's comparing rappers to prostitutes. That part makes a lot more sense that way. The ''homie in the suit'' is obviously some kinda corporate excecutive that's trying to get people to make the bullshit rap that sells so much nowadays. |

| Kanye West – Love Lockdown Lyrics
|
It seems to me Kanye is following the footsteps of singers like T-Pain and Chris Brown, which is one genre of music I truly can not stand (although of course he still keeps his lyrcal abilities). I hate this damn electric sounding whiny voice.
It's a damn shame... I love Kanye I bought all three of his albums released so far and I cherish them. I admit, lyrics are to me the most important element in a song and these lyrics are much better than most of the rap lyrics put out by for instance Young Jeezy or Lil' Wayne. However, I'm not going to actually praise these lyrics because to me they look like your average love song lyrics - it's been done before.
This does not compare to Diamonds from Sierra Leone or Jesus Walks, or Through the Wire or any of the many great songs made by Kanye. Not even close. As a matter of fact, I'd rather listen to Lil' Wayne, who I do not respect as an artist at all, than listen to this garbage. At least his voice isn't faked or made extremely annoying. As much as I love Kanye as a rapper, this crap makes me want to punch someone. |

| Ice Cube – Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
I know I'm probably going to get some hatred over what I'm about to say because I guess most people who read these lyrics are into gangsta rap, but I'm going to give you my two cents anyway.
I believe none of the evils in society can be fully attributed to gangsta rap. I do believe though that the youth today is heavily influenced by gangsta rap. You can try to justify the lyrics of gangsta rap all you want, but the fact of the matter is that those lyrics glorify gangbanging, drug dealing, robbery, etc. and there's really no way around it. I don't know about you but I believe anybody who kills and robs innocent people belongs in jail and not on a record making millions off of it. Now I'm not saying Ice Cube, or most gangsta rappers for that matter, ever killed anybody, but I've heard tons of rap lyrics bragging about how they shoot gats and sell dope.
What I don't get is why do people listen to rap that's the same fake bullshit about guns and crack when there are so many great rap artists out there that don't feel the need to prove their manhood by rapping about criminal stuff? Ever listened to a Lupe Fiasco track? Look up Lupe Fiasco's ''The Coolest'' on this website and read the comments discussing THE MEANING of the song (yes, that song actually has a meaning). Check out the great wordplay and metaphors, and compare that song to your average Ice Cube song (Ice Cube is just an example, I have nothing against him is specific.) Doesn't Ice Cube look retarded by comparison? Where is his lyricism?
Honestly, a 10 year old could write your average gangsta rap lyrics. Write some sentences about your money, your hoes and your guns, make 'em rhyme and congratulations, you may have just written a succesful song to show on BET. If you throw in one metaphor you've probably already topped the lyrical value of all of 50 Cent and Young Jeezy's work combined.
One last thing. I used to listen to gangsta rap too. I used to think it's pretty damn cool to be from the ghetto and be a thug. Then I started listening to some Kanye West, some Talib Kweli, some Mos Def, etc. Now my eyes are open to the fact that gangsta rap is one of the most retarded genres of music to ever exist. |

This song is the perfect example of why I love Reasonable Doubt. I love the jazzy sound mixed with the great flow and lyrics. In my opninion Jay-Z went downhill from here until he dropped the Black Album. Like he said ''grand opening, grand closing''. I think he should have stuck with that. |

Wulfreigns, about the killing part, this actually fits perfectly within the story. First he gets killed in this song, then he gets up out of his grave in 'The Cool' on his first album. He is essentially a zombie on the second album. Then he gets killed AGAIN (as a zombie this time) in 'The Die'. |

|
''And if the rain stops, and everything's dry
She would cry, just so I could drink the tears from her eyes''
''And pray to God that the flood subside
'Cause you gon' need a sub 'til he does reply ''
I think the whole flood thing is about flooding the streets with drugs because after that he says ''another supply (another supply of drugs to sell), that means another July inside my endless summer''. As you all probably know, this song tells the story about The Cool being seduced by The Streets from The Cool's perspective.
So when he says ''another July inside my endless summer'' he's talking about his (seemingly endless) period of succes and wealth as a drug dealer after being lured into The Game by The Streets. |

Haha Snoop Dogg really messed up on his flow there. I like Lupe's Verses but he can do better, and all together I don't really like the song. I don't like the chorus by Pooh Bear and I don't really like Snoop Dogg as a rapper. Still better than most of the garbage you see on tv nowadays though. |

I don't see how anybody could go crazy over a song with lyrics like these. A four year old could write a more meaningful song than this. I hate the fact that utter crap like this is associated with rap. I also hate the fact that these people are allowed to call themselves 'artists', that would mean this shit is art, lol.
Go listen to some Lupe Fiasco and really listen and interpret the lyrics, you won't go back to this bullshit I assure you. It's a shame that these morons are paid 100 times the cash true artists are paid. In fact, it's a shame that they are paid at all for doing this. |

Great song, my favorite on the black album.
''Or even the worst pain is the distress

Now it gets tough to ever love a-gain''
That just amazing. One small correction though, it's ten inch bracelets. Not tennis bracelets. |

D4MVP I agree, one of the worst songs on his album. Jay-Z has a LOT of potential but he ''dumbs down for his audience and doubles his dollars''. Listen to Allure and My 1st Song. If only he'd be like that all the time. |

''If lyrics sold then truth be told, I'd probably be just as rich and famous as Jay-Z. Thruthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense, next best thing I do a record with Common Sense.''
That part is a response to Jay-Z's song 'Moment of Clarity'. Jay-Z raps
''If skills sold then truth be told, I'd probably be lyrically Talib Kweli. Truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sence, but I did 5 mill, I ain't been rhyming like Common since.''
Brilliant song. |
