I think this song is about someone who lives a life full of sexual escapade after sexual escapade. Hence the whores in his bed. However, he's not satisfied with it. He wants someone that's more than that, someone more significant than just a one night stand. He wants to meet someone he can feel passionately about, someone he can devote himself, but all he can muster is sexual flings. I think he finally does meet someone he feels he could potentially love and is thrilled (If you go I will surely die) but, tragically, she's only interested for the sex (and mary ain't you tired of this). I don't think the man and lady described (that go "Uh" to each other) are the two people at the beginning. I think they're a separate scenario, what would usually be expected, what he was expecting through their encounter - for him to not care and for her to be brimming with adoration. But instead, it's just the opposite. He wants more from her than she's interested in giving. "We're chained" is the idea that they're both chained to this same situation, doomed to repeat simple meaningless sex over and over again, that he can't find anything new and different like how he so badly wants, but is stuck repeating this same pattern of get in, get out. Maybe. |

| Why does everyone have to assume that he's writing it as if it was his voice? I take it as him writing in the voice of some other person. who digs incest. QotSA is all about shock value imo. Haven't you seen the Go With The Flow video? "wtfincestbabymotherholyshit" is right, batman. I think Homme took a love song, added a couple creepy lines for a vibe, then threw in "Little sister" just to laugh when everyone went overboard freaking out that a song about incest was doing so well. He's just trying to screw with his audience man. I love it. | |

To start with: unlike what some others have said, I definitely don't think the first two lines relate to porn. You don't frame porn. [She said "i'll throw myself away, They're just photos after all"] - She said "I'm breaking up with you, I refuse to let myself get upset with it, all the photos we have left of us together are just pictures, they don't represent the feelings, I'll move on." -- basically she's convincing herself that she'll be okay after breaking up with him. [I can't make you hang around. I can't wash you off my skin.] - "I can't get you to stay and not leave me, but I can't forget you either." [Outside the frame, is what we're leaving out You won't remember anyway] - He's half heartedly trying to convince her to stay with him. "It's not what's in the pictures that counts, it's everything else that we had, when no one else was around, the kissing, the love, the sex, etc" and then he gives up and is basically saying that it's not worth it to convince her, she won't stay, she "won't remember" everything they had together. [I can go with the flow But don't say it doesn't matter anymore] - "I won't bother you to get back with me again, I won't ask you to keep having sex with me / stay in this relationship with me. It's your decision. But I don't want you telling me that everything we had was nothing and you'll just move on without a single thought about me, we both know it's not true." [Do you believe it in your head?] - "do you seriously think you can leave me that easily and not feel bad about it? admit it to yourself that it'll be hard for both of us." [It's so safe to play along Little soldiers in a row Falling in and out of love With something sweet to throw away.] - Just about life, the little soldiers are basically the mindless people. They're falling in and out of love, going through their relationships, loving it and enjoying it one minute, then forgetting everything and how good it was one day and breaking up with that partner that previously thrilled them. "It's so safe to play along" is how easy it is that you fall into that same trap of falling in love and then quickly falling out after you've lost everything you once had. The sweet thing thrown away is the memories and good times of the relationship, which could perhaps be revived and re-lived with effort, but instead of trying, when you lose that spark, it's instinct to just try for someone else instead. [But I want something good to die for To make it beautiful to live.] - "But I'm not going to be one of those mindless soldiers, I want to find a girl that I can really be with and enjoy my life with, someone who can make me happy. I'm going to put effort into things and not break it off when the spark dies, i'll try and recreate it instead." Even though he says this, he's not asking the girl to stay with him, he's telling her why he still wanted to stay with her even though what they might have once had has died. [I want a new mistake] - "I'm going to keep trying with other girls to find something that will make me happy, even if it ends up a mistake like this one." [lose is more than hesitate.] - I honestly have no idea. Maybe he's saying that he might take some time before finding the new girl, he'll hesitate before trying again, but if he gave up completely or let himself become one of the "mindless soldiers" with no purpose, that'd be worse. That's my take on it anyway. And as for the video being extremely sexual.. I think the Queens are just in to sex-themed, twisted, fucked up videos. It was a good song, and they knew people'd pay attention to it... so they did an in-your-face fucked up video for it, haha. They just like messing with people. As for the sexual ideas in the song's lyrics, I can get your point, that makes sense for a lot of it, but it just doesn't fit as a whole. I think that if there's a sexual theme to it then it's just that he still wants to fuck his girlfriend, but she's leaving. |
