Secondhand Serenade – Vulnerable Lyrics 16 years ago
This song reminds me alot of Dashboard Confessional. The same one we all fell in love with and listened to over and over again as kids, with Chris Carrabba playing an acoustic guitar and singing amazing vocals. Brings back good memories. Thank you Secondhand Serenade.

Brand New – The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot Lyrics 17 years ago
I am pretty sure this song is not about his dad, but rather a relationship. It is quite ovious that he has done something stupid to make the the girl mad (I know I'm using vauge pronouns, but it is only because i cant be for certain who this song is about) which explains the title "The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot," in terms that he destroyed his own relationship. This also explains the lines "Call me a safe bet, I'm betting I'm not," because she trusted him, but he let her down. I think this is a lot deeper metaphor, which is Brand New's style, rather than saying it's a nick name from his father(not trying to bash anyone else, just saying what i believe). Through this song he is not trying to win her back per se, but rather telling her either to forgive him,or end the relationship (So call it quits or get a grip). My perception is it is one of those "you can do whatever you want,I just want you to be happy" kind of songs. This would explain the first two verses(all the "if it makes you less sad" parts). He is also dissatisfied with the girl's reaction to his intolerable act. it can be assumed that she was acting a certain way in spite of him, rather than to help or end their relationship(You say you wanted a solution, you just wanted to be missed). This would explain his enmity towards her.In the final stage of this work of art, He shows how much pain she has put in his life(though there was good reason),and it crecendoes up into a final tonal shift where it states that though she caused him much pain in his life, he still loves her (You are the smell before rain, you are the blood in my veins).

Taking Back Sunday – Liar (It Takes One to Know One) Lyrics 17 years ago
ive reread the lord of the flies in the past year so it is fresh in my mind...so im gonna throw some things out there that could be parallels to a deeper meaning of the original sin theory in this song...

"All our secrets they are tailored trouble
Draped loose now around your hips" This could be the dead parachutest that the kids believed to be the monster, which caused Jack to come to power which creates chaos. So he could be calling their "secrets" a monster which is a source to all their problems.

"Your spotless instincts are valid
We co-exist" If the Lord of the Flies theory is correct then this is line obviously supports the theory of original sin...it states that people will depend on their instincts(like jack and roger) and by saying that they co-exist, TBS is including themself in that instictive world.

"We've got 26 days to work with (it moves, it moves, it moves)
We'll see what all gets done" I think that people get so caught up in the first line that they skip the importance of the second one...i belive TBS is saying that in a world based on instictive survival skills nothing would be able to get done, so the parallel is stating that how can a relationship/friendship last built around secrecy and lies.

"Then we're all choir boys at best" This is obviously referring to the choir boys in the book, who became the "hunters" that followed Jack. So TBS is basically calling society chaotic just like golding was trying to say.

overall i believe TBS was trying to use golding's book to go along witht he original sin theory. They try to state that all me were born sinners, and that they themselves were included in that group. Thanks for reading and give me your thoughts on this.

Alesana – The Third Temptation Of Paris Lyrics 17 years ago
Alesana usually uses these types of stories to convey an underlying meaning (examples:A Siren's Soliloquy and Nero's Decay). I'm just not sure what this one is about. Either way it is a beautifully written song and well preformed.

Alesana – A Siren's Soliloquy Lyrics 17 years ago
I believe that once again, Alesana uses the symbolism to get across their meanings. I believe this song is about a guy who is so deeply in love with someone, that he does not realize that she is hurting him. He compares himself to being controlled by sirens.

"suffering unseen now will be left to burn in her stare
but he no longer fights the torture of her voice
so long forgotten, I am lost in her stare
mad so clear as she extracts her painful toll
a soul now echoes with the torture of the sirens
...he is hers..."

"set loose so long ago by the foolish whim of Pandora" is alluding to Pandora in greek mythology. Pandora had a box given to her by Zeus, and she was told never to open it. Out of curiosity she opened it and evil was spread across the land. This shows the foolishness of the man's mistake of falling in love with her.

Alesana – Nero's decay Lyrics 17 years ago
I disagree that this song is actually about Rome. I think that they worte this song just like some of their others, using mythology and history as symbolism to their true meaning. I think it is about a break up that though it is over, he will still remember her.
"but still the brilliant tale of our utopia survives tonight her beautiful exterior may crash and burn to ash but the fight for her honor will rage on I hope I never see the end I hope I never have to live without her comfort but for now she dies... oh Rome! so full of majesty, you're gone..."

of coarse this is just my opinion. Either way its is a beautifully written and preformed song.
