i agree with sillybilly, simple but amazing lyrics. and if im not mistaken, i think a movie was actually made from those lyrics, nothing big though. the song is about overrated rock star life. "outshined", as in he's a "star", but once fame reaches a certain point, things get fucked up. basically, the best de-gloyifying rock songs of all time. "looking california, feeling minnosota". he's at the point where he's become something more than human, but he still feels like an average schmoe. "so now you know who gets mystified". describing that even though fans claim to be star-struck, he is even more in awe of what is happening than they are. "Show me the power child, I'd like to say That I'm down on my knees today It gives me the butterflies, gives me away Till I'm up on my feet again I'm feeling outshined" --being on stage is a drug. it makes him nauseous, but he needs it to feel good. the crowd is his dealer. |

| this song is about alcohol, which was chris cornell's drug of choice. its about being a depressive alcoholic, sitting in a dark room, and just drinking yourself to sleep. its having "liquid courage" replace what depression and insecurity destroys; confidence... but only in the comfort of lonliness.
