I agree with Krob189 altogether. I do agree that it isn't about anyone actually being killed, its probably just a metaphor of them being harassed and assaulted. And I agree too that I don't really like homosexuals and based on my religion don't agree with it, but I like the point of this song because seriously going out of your way to attack and brutalize another human being, regardless of sexual orientation or anything else is just stupid. Last thing I gotta say is that this song is epic. |

Actually it doesn't match their situation perfectly. This song depicts a male vampire falling in love with a human girl. In this song HE is the one who wants to bite HER. In the story it is the other way around. She learns that he is a vampire, and falls in love with him, and she wants him to bite her, and he doesn't want to. It might be inspired by Twilight, Its hard to say. Twilight came out in 2005, the same year that the CD that this song is on was released. But whatever the case, it isn't directly written about Twilight, because of my aforementioned reasons. |

Well, if you watch the video, the song basically narrates it and shows you what happened. He asked her to marry him, she said no, he went crazy cuz she said no, he killed her, kept her body, slept with it, etc. Her soul came back and avenged her death basically, and then he came back and spent his eternity trying to make it up with her. Then, they went killing together, and got married "for the rest of their unnatural life. |

First of all...beautiful song. Nick Thomas really has a way with words Second of all...its written sort of like a screen play.."fade in start the scene, enter beautiful girl"... and its saying that, we all have at least flirted with the idea of committing suicide, but the trick is never acting on it no matter how tough life gets. The boy was there and was going to kill himself, but had sort of an epiphany of some sort that he had reason yet in his life to live...and a few minutes later he finds this beautiful girl going to do that he had just talked himself out of, and realizes that THIS is what he was sposed to stay alive for. He was sposed to stay alive not only to be alive himself, but keep her there as well. |

First of all, the acoustic version was on the CD Go For The Jugular which was released in 02 before Sunsets and Car Crashes. The one on Sunsets is including a full band, but at the time Sunsets was recorded Nick was still the only "official" person in the band. One Fell Swoop was the first cd they recorded as an actual band, with Nick, Dan, Joe, and former bassist Scott. Now Landon is with them. Anyways, this is a song about young love, how he is in love with her, and he hopes its true love and not just a fling. He feels that he is only truly himself when he is with her. And he feels that laying in bed with her is all he needs, she is the only necessity in life. My guess on the water line that nobody really seems to have an answer for... Nick almost always has metaphors in his song, this probably is a metaphor...my guess is he is comparing love to water...water is tasteless (unless you count flavored water, but bear with me), so its impossible to taste water, right? Well, he feels that love is like water, impossible to taste...but he feels as if he is on the verge of being able to taste it as its standing there right before him. Make sense? |

Well I think that no matter what it is, it HAS to somehow be referring to his loss of childhood innocence, whether he is just growing up as a person, or losing his virginity or what... "the funeral for my once loved youth" "the tombstone of my bashful childhood" i think those two lines prove that it HAS to somehow be pointing at growing up, losing his youth ya'know.. Perhaps it is this popular virginity theory, another thought that crossed my mind was that he just graduated..maybe moved out of his parents house...it could be any range of things somehow involving leaving your childhood behind and taking the next step in your life. |

First of all, to someone up there who implied that Spill Canvas were sell outs....If you've ever talked to them, actually had a conversation with them, you would know that they aren't sell outs. These guys are from my home town in South Dakota, I always welcome them back when they are comin back for another show and they are such down to earth guys...seriously, don't go and call someone a sell out when you don't know what you are really talking about... And this song Nick is most likely using the bomb as a metaphor, because he usually does it that way. I'm thinking that he is possibly comparing the bomb with him spilling his emotions...Too often in life people don't share their true emotions, and his "bomb" was him just letting it all out, saying how he truly felt about everyone and everything...its the answer to his pain and torture of holding all these feelings in and not sharing them. That's just a thought, I donno...We never really talk about it when I see him, when they aren't being a band they are just being regular guys who don't carry their band over into the rest of their life so they don't really go and talk about it. |

well when you read the song and look at the title, to me i think its saying that this is what he thinks is going to happen..this is him narrating what his plans for the night are... "In a romantic fashion I will experiment with my fear right before her eyes And every smile that's unveiled will be soaked in my nervous charm" he's saying that to be romantic he is going to do something brave in front of her to try and impress her...and his smiles will be soaked in his nervous charm, maybe he's licking his lips a lot? There's been a few things I've been meaning to let go of tonight" And she will say, "Everything's just fine So you can put an end to your worrying mind" And then our lips will collide" well i think this is basically saying exactly what it is..he plans on askin her if she's okay with what they are doing..maybe she's a virgin and he's saying like, are you sure this is okay, you don't wanna wait? and she says, yeah its fine...then they kiss "The August sky will then bare witness to a brand new chapter with torn up pages When the planets align, I can feel the gates opening to my courage As I proceed to run my fingers through her hair And forget everyone who's jaded, 'cause they don't matter and I don't care" i like someones comparison that i read that the torn pages is sex out of marriage, that its a new chapter in their relationship, and its torn because they had sex out of marriage..but no matter how flawed it may be, everything is perfect, he's in love..the planets have aligned for him, and he's feeling courageous and at the top of his game in a sense..and he doesn't care what anyone else thinks "Brash and hopeful that my luck will not perish tonight And when the overcast tries to kill me it's your slow motion rain that falls warm on my neck that keep me alive" he considers himself lucky to be with her, and he's just hoping that his luck won't run out, and that night will go as he plans...and he makes an analogy towards weather, the "overcast" or, maybe someone else's view of their relationship or something like that is putting him down, its her "rain" or her words or kisses maybe that keep him alive or from going insane or whatever you know.. i agree with eXeon i basically think its gotta do with liking a girl, and his friends stab him in the back and talk behind his back about him liking this girl, and even though he cares what his friends think, she's just so stunning that he likes her even more and gets dragged in...and he's still too scared to make a move or anything, too scared tot alk to her......and then he has a dream that they are together, and no matter what anybody else says, they are perfect for each other and they stand up against all odds and win...then he wakes from the dream at the end and still feels too nervous to admit his true feelings idk, its really hard to decipher because nick is soooo....idk how to put it..playful with words....he's so incredibly creative that it could mean a million different things...even though it seems like its talking about war, just by knowing how nick writes his songs, i'm assuming that its completely used as an analogy...in most of his songs when he says something straightforward kinda like that, its an analogy and on their 2002 cd Go For The Jugular, this same song was titled If I Could Write It In Blood.... in case that seems to put the song more into perspective for anybody |
