Skyf - thank you for some intelligence. The song is obvious, perhaps not a one night stand but a casual relationship in which he is feeling a little too attached. Judging from your profile, you don't live in Aus so how would you know what the norm is? Crime is hardly the norm is Australian suburbia. A lot of Smith's songs are quite vague and you must read in to them in order to grasp the true meaning. For this one, I disagree. I believe it's as straight forward as it sounds. It's a couple who are in the midst of an affair. They are both being unfaithful to their respective partners. They're caught up in a world of sex and drugs which is no longer fun because they're developing true feelings for each other. "You don't deserve to be lonely But those drugs you got won't make you feel better Pretty soon you'll find it's the only Little part of your life you're keeping together." She's new to the scene and at first he was just pleased to have someone to get buckled with, now that he is developing feelings for her, he doesn't want to see her as messed up as he is. Feels the need to protect her. I also feel this song signifies the end of their union because he knows it's wrong. He's hurting.. big time |

The guy is obviously over analysing their situation. He's thinking too much about what if it goes wrong hence the lines "So tell me why, stop to think about this weather, my dear" and "Oh, when we are one, I'm not afraid, I'm not afraid If there's a cloud up above us Go on and let in rain I'm sure our love together would endure a hurricane Oh my baby won't you please let me love you and get a release from this awful misery". She's so sure he's the one and if it all falls apart, so what, they gave it a chance. She doesn't want to spend the rest of her life asking what if? I know exactly how she feels!! |

| I've never heard him sing like this. Absoloute raw emotion. It's clearly about coming off the drugs as RA is an ex-addict. The line 'high on forever and always together' refers to those around him who are proud that he's cleaning himself up and his acting like he has it all together although the comedown 'is starting to hurt' | |
