"I still wave at the dots on the shore" -The dots are possibly the people who folded to the mainstream and left him behind. I imagine the narrator to be on a boat drifting out to sea, the distance between himself and the others are so far, they just look like dots now. Alternately, and more melancholy, he could be without a boat, and waving at the people on the shore like a drowning man does to signal a lifeguard that he needs help. Those on the shore are safely out of harm's way, while he risks drowning. "And I still bang my head against the wall. I still rage and wage my little war" -Struggling with whether his decision was the right one. There seems to be a lot of regret here. |

I love the mood change in this song. Not expected when hearing the introduction. "(Wake up, wake up) You should be happy in the pink" Just sounds to me like it's about a person who has missed the bigger picture in life, has wasted it and things are going to change very soon. The extreme repetition of "wake up" throughout the song is a type of realization. |

| Freddie Mercury – Golden Boy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| At first this song didn't strike my chords, but the semi-tonal notes at the beginning started to spark my attention and it's now one of my favourite Freddie Mercury tracks. The gospel choir adds a nice layer to the piece C: | |

An absolutely gorgeous song. My favourite Freddie Mercury solo song along with The Golden Boy and Goin' Back. It's filled with so much passion. |
