I think it also has strong references to a relationship in college... "It's my last semester (it's my last semester) At least until next winter (at least until next winter) But I'm sure that I'll be over this by then " And "Better off in two year stretches" Or maybe a long distance relationship (With the letters references?) While he's away at college she's seeing someone else (making him secondary)... He says this is his last semester, but he knows he'll go back, maybe because of a fraternity (Brothers always come first)? |

Not sure if it's related, but Burning Man is an annual event in Nevada. It's (so I hear, as I've never been and don't know much about it) about art, communal living, etc... But it's sometimes stereotyped (I don't know if it's a deserved reputation or not) as a place where there is alot of drugs and sex going on... So the reference to "the burning man" and then setting himself on fire at the end might be related? I don't know... |

Maybe is about drugs? Weed especially? "No more weeds! left in your garden No more green! and no more stone(d)! --- Only evil of your own" And then about not finishing something (the book) And losing the telephone. (Not working + not paying bills because you only want to get high). I could be wrong, though. |

In the song "God Gave A Stone", there is this line - "And God gave a stone but it rolled down the hill It’s the shape of His breath, or Her breath if you will" - Which makes me think of this song. Maybe it's about people seeing the king (God) as a woman? |

The line "The postman cried while reading the mail" reminds me of Don McLean's American Pie: "But February made me shiver With every paper I'd deliver Bad news on the doorstep I couldn't take one more step" Not sure there's a connection, but, who knows??? |

In response to the last comment (HollyAnnDavid's)... I think, in this context, the second verses waiter and rooster lines, refers to prostitution. The waiter comes with a bill, but she has no money to pay. So she turns to the rooster (AKA a cock) waiting for day (at night time). Actually, the whole song could be about turning to prostitution. Like in the first verse, she's "rolling" on the floor of a fucker (could be literal) with a pocketful of foreign change (he's a tourist, just looking for a good time before he goes back?). I'm not sure I'm right, but I could be on to something. Or not. Your decision. |

| Disregard the above. Somehow I got Korea and Vietnam mixed up. I don't know how. | |
| Brand New – Missing You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Just a crazy thought, but is there any chance at all he's saying Seoul. As in Seoul, South Korea. There seem to be various references in the demos that could be thought of as references to the Korean war (Especially here and #3). Veterans, names on a wall. It's probably not right at all, but who knows. | |
| Brand New – Battalions Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I don't think: "We're finding our own tonight A little light to keep it on Our own battalion" Is correct. I hear: "We're burning our oil tonight A little light to keep it on Our own battalion" And I think that makes more sense. |
