| The Academy Is... – About a Girl Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I like this song even though i know there will be TAI fans who hate it. I sort of think it's about a guy who thinks he loves this girl, but isn't sure whether to tell her or not ("last night I knew what to say") and he denies it to his friends. Like when it says "I'm not gonna waste these words about a girl" I feel like he's trying to convince himself that he doesn't love her. I'll put more coherent thoughts up after I've slept. |

Love this song so much...the first time I heard it I almost started crying because Brendon just sound so good singing it, it does feel as though he wrote it even though we all know Ryan did.I don't know what it is about this song but on all the cd's I own (which is many) this is one of the only songs I can think of that gives me chills when I listen to it (the only other one i can think of is a day in the life by the beatles)...it amazes me. As for what this song's about...I think it's about love basically, although I do agree the line about the world being a "broken bone" is kind of saying yeah the world isn't perfect but we've got to deal with it. |

I reckon this song can mean whatever you want it to...if you want to believe it's about them being high (which I'm starting to think it is) then you can but I've also heard people say they think it's about like the state of our world at the moment with lines like "looks like the end of history as we know". As much as I do think this song it about drugs I also agree with the idea of them going back to where they came from etc. my favourite line is "losing the feeling of feeling unique"...I'm not sure why but it just grabbed me the first time I heard the song and somehow it makes me feel something...I'm not sure what though haha. |

well, I love this song (and album). It was the first song off the album I became obsessed with other than nine in the afternoon but I had that before I got the album. I'm not sure what it means though, all I can say is that it reminds me of the mad hatter's tea party in alice in wonderland, that impression is again emphasised by the picture next to the lyrics in the little booklet thing haha. As for people saying they're lyrics aren't as 'good' because they're not so 'dark' anymore, well I read an interview last year with Ryan where he said, "it's hard to write sad songs when you're not sad anymore" and I think that really comes through on the album that they've moved on from being angsty teenagers, matured and now basically just want to have a bit of fun. It's good to see a band which is placed in the 'emo' box moving away from that and basically saying yeah we're gonna do what we want to do and don't care if everyone hates us for it. |
