Amy Winehouse – Cherry Lyrics 17 years ago
There is something unconsciously lesbian about the lyrics. Amy is talking about this woman like she's in love/infatuated with her.

Nelly Furtado – Picture Perfect Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is actually about yearning for stardom/fame or anything really so bad you can feel it in your bones.

The protagonist in this story idolizes symbols of glamour and beauty and dreams of a life of overflowing richness while working a dead-end job ("lifting cement") and making the best of what he/she has by going shopping and driving around and just enjoying life. It can really be interpreted in a variety of different ways. Utterly beautiful lyrics.

Amy Winehouse – Fuck Me Pumps Lyrics 17 years ago
Flamencoprof

"And like the news everyday you get pressed"

Doesn't really make sense to me either. The lyrics are

"Don't be too upset
If they call you a skank
Cause like the news everyday you get pressed"

I think Amy meant, don't be too upset if other women call you a skank/slut, because everyday you fix yourself up very nicely and somewhat take on another identity and attract more men???

Can someone give me their interpretation. Mine sounds fishy :-(

Amy Winehouse – Just Friends Lyrics 17 years ago
It’s about a woman who’s asking a man if they can get the time to be “just friends” with no strings attached.

She knows that it’s never safe for them to meet up at night because she’s always drunk and belligerent.

It’s also not safe in the morning or day time, because he can easily serenade her sweet nothings while she is in a good mood and they will end up having sex and ruining what could be a perfectly good relationship – again.

The line “No, I’m not a ashamed, but the guilt will kill you, if she don’t first” – this line alone adds a whole other layer to the relationship. The man is in a relationship. She is telling the man she wouldn’t be ashamed to be more than friends with him, but he will be so riddled with guilt if they do something together, and his girlfriend will be furious if she finds out. This one line contradicts the whole first verse of the song because in the first verse she is saying that she just wants to be friends and not lovers, but in the second she is considering a sexual relationship with this man.

“I’ll never love you like her” - I’m more of a friend to you, I’ll never love you as unconditionally as your girlfriend does.

She goes on to say that they need to find the time to make their friendship work and eliminate the other mess.

“I wanna touch you, but that just hurts” - completely changes the whole mood/structure of the song. Does she love this man? I thought she just wanted to be a friend/fuck buddy with him.

Basically, this woman is having some pretty conflicted feelings that are clashing up against each other. She really doesn’t know what she wants. Amy Winehouse is a brilliant songwriter.
