The Fall of Troy – The Dark Trail Lyrics 15 years ago
everyone that said oxy addiction had it basically right.

some time released pills have a crescent moons on them explaining the lines "light up the moon..." and "...expensive crescent..."

with that said:

the use of double meanings here are just classic examples of what makes a great songwriter. he's describing the drug as if it is a woman which isn't new in songwriting. i personally think that using something as universal as love and relationships to illustrate or articulate the feelings such powerful substances such as opiates, is a great way to make a song that speaks to everyone and not just addicts/former addicts/family and friends of addicts.

im not sure if thom (singer/songwriter for tFoT) was the one battling addiction, or whether it was a close friend, but its obvious he has had some experience with the drug(oxy). i have heard it both ways. either way the experience would be an emotional one which explains this powerful song.

if you feel any other reference this song makes is about some other drug, or some girl you knew, or whatever, thats awesome, and thats why these guys are great. they know how to write lyrics with meaning. and that meaning can be interpreted in many ways and mean so many different things to different people. whatever every line means to the writer is different than what every line means to you.

everything in this song screams(literally)oxy to me. but thats just cause ive been through opiate addiction, and have supported those struggling with it. its all about perspective people. and feelings and emotions, whether natural through relationships, or synthetic through drugs, are all very real and they are all very powerful and they all effect how we see the world. songwriters and musicians are lucky if they can convey those feelings through sound and word.

in my opinion, they succeeded.

The Chemical Brothers – The Test Lyrics 15 years ago
i believe Eightba|| is 100% right. my own personal experiences with lsd are mirrored in these verses. some of my favorite...

"Pictures and things that I've done before, Circling around me, Out here on the floor, I'm dreaming this and I'm dreaming that, Regretting nothing, Think about that" <- i have experienced just that. not a near death, life flashing before your eyes experience, but a perfect recall of events playing out before your eyes and a complete understanding of them. a loss of ego looking at the past. no regrets.

"You know I always lost my mind, I can't explain, Where I've been, You know I almost lost my mind, I couldn't explain, The things I've seen, But now I think I see the light, Now I think I see the light"<- explaining an lsd experience to someone who has never been there is almost impossible. i lost my mind plenty of times when i was trippin but thats when things made the most sense.

this is a great song. i feel the lyrics are so concise and speak volumes if youve ever experienced lysergic acid. also, "the electric kool aid acid test" by tom wolfe is an amazing book and an awesome read. amazing insights into those times

He Is Legend – Decisions Decisions Decisions Lyrics 15 years ago
first aid thats why these guys are so bad ass! you CAN and absolutely should go deep with their lyrics. its such a sick song. powerful, intense, and whether or not im feeling what they want me too, i get chills every time i listen to it. i personally take this as a song about depression and moving on and talking yourself out of it. moving past the destructive thought patterns/relationships that we want to hold onto but cling too thinking they define us or make us better.

God i cant articulate how much this song blows me away every time i listen to it. Its so damn good, and the slowing down that happens briefly at 2:18 is effin genius. I have no clue what it means. But im of the opinion that when you have such an amazing lyricist like this guy, you get to make em mean whatever you want to mean. Thats what i look for in my lyrics. enough ambiguity to mean so many things, yet clarity that cannot be described

the best part about etid is there lyrics almost always not meant to be taken literally. its metaphor upon metaphor, which makes them incredibly flexible to interpetation. i personally think buckleyapprentice has the most intelligent interpetation. seems to me tho, that most of these songs have double meanings and could easily be any of these ideas.

except for that goth one...that ones just retarded lol

this songs sooooo kick ass! the majority of the songs chords are lil on the melodic, kinda happy, upbeat end. and then around 2.45 the chords are dropped an octave, or something, and it makes it so heavy sounding! i love it! i dunno if thats for sure what happens there lol but i know something does, and whatever it is i could listen to i t over, and over, and over just for that part lol

Every Time I Die – Pretty Dirty Lyrics 17 years ago
i like that idea mclars. i dont know how right it is, but i dont really think that matters. i get the feeling that most of keiths lyrics are written to be taken many ways. im sure some songs have definate meanings, but it seems most are written to almost make them your own. i dunno. i like to look at em a little bit more metaphorically most of the time but i could be complicating them lol.
my feelings on this songs meanings are kind tied around the line: "now the sky is falling, and your just repeating every thing i say"
like hes been trying to warn someone of something, and now that its all going to shit, and then they start listening.
"i drew a chalk outline around your city, i hushed the sobs in your halls, but we both know its a killer, baby hell outrun em all" almost like he saw that something, a relationship, an idea, whatever, wasnt gonna work from the start. before it was apparent to everyone else. and even though he didnt think it was gonna work, he still comforted the one who was going through with the doomed idea anyways. then it was more obvious it wasnt gonna work, but he still didnt wanna listen, he thought he could "outrun" all the consequences.
when i think of this song in that sense, alot of the other lyrics kinda fall into line and make a lil more sense.
but like i said, i could be complicating it all lol
