Bob Dylan – One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later) Lyrics 17 years ago
Elephant Range mentioned that Bob sought to make his songs more versatile than specific. I think looking at it from a non-historical perspective, this song is about the author taking the virginity of a young girl without realizing it. It sounds like she was way more invested in the relationship than he, because she was young, inexperienced, and naive. He thought they would have just a fling and she thought they would last forever. I think she kept her virginity a secret: "But you said you knew an' I took your word" until after the deed, when she "told [him] later and [he] apologized." I think the refrain implies that the girl had to learn some time "You just did what you're supposed to do," and it might as well have been with him, as he actually did care about her when they had sex.

Andrew Bird – Armchairs Lyrics 17 years ago
I dreamed you were a cosmonaut
of the space between our chairs
and I was a cartographer
of the tangles in your hair

I sighed a song that silence brings
it's the one that everybody knows
oh everybody knows
the song that silence sings
and this was how it goes

these looms that weave apocryphal
they're hanging from a strand
these dark and empty rooms were full
of incandescent hands

an akward pause
a fatal flaw
time it's a crooked bow
oh time's a crooked bow

in time you need to learn to love
the ebb just like the flow

grab hold of your bootstraps
and pull like hell,
'til gravity feels sorry for you,
and lets you go

as if you lack the proper chemicals to know
the way it felt the last time you let yourself
fall this low
time
oh time
it's a crooked bow
time's a crooked bow

fifty-five and three-eighths years later
at the bottom of this gigantic crater
an armchair calls to you
yeah, this armchair calls to you
and it says that
some day
we'll get back at them all
with epoxy and a pair of pliers
as ancient sea slugs begin to crawl
through the ragweed and barbed wire

you didn't write, you didn't call
it didn't cross your mind at all
and through the waves
the waves of a.m. squall
you couldn't feel a thing at all
your fifty-five and three-eighths tall
fifty-five and three-eighths tall

those are the complete, correct lyrics. there are just a couple of little miistakes

Missy Higgins – The Wrong Girl Lyrics 17 years ago
Cestirene, I think the line you mentioned:

Yet hold me against the light
Can you see any bullet inside?
You wouldn't find one if you magnified
'cuz you've got the wrong girl

is meant to contradict the line before, which leads the reader to believe that, like mel-luvs-tle said, missy feels no reason to keep carrying on because she is so disappointed and jaded. This line, to me, says that although she feels that way now, anyone that really knew her would see that she is going to bounce back and get over it eventually. Bullet wounds are permanent, at least to some degree. I think she's saying that if you took the time to get to know her or understand her situation ("hold her against the light"), you would see that as agonizing as her disappointment is, she's not the kind of girl to let it change her for good.

Some of these lyrics are wrong. The ones under this song title on Andrew Bird's solo page are correct.

Andrew Bird – Case in Point Lyrics 17 years ago
"And you know it's all just par for the course
But you blame it on some non-existent force"

Going along with the religious imagery, I think that this line negates the idea of an omniscient God that controls everything. I think he's saying that people do not take enough credit. Blaming or accrediting life-changing events to something that may or may not even exist (he obviously believes it doesn't) gives people the false concept that life is beyond them and what happens just happens, regardless of their actions.

Also, the lyrics are on the Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire page as well, but they're incorrect.
