David Bowie – Modern Love Lyrics 16 years ago
Whoops! My second paragraph should start off with "Modern love is making him not be able to trust relationships in general"

David Bowie – Modern Love Lyrics 16 years ago
I think people might be confusing some things because of the way the song is written. Don't really pay attention to the echoes in the song because the echoes are just extra. It is is saying:
Modern love - walks beside me; walks on by; get's me to church on time; terrifies me; makes me party; puts my trust in God and man--not confessions or religion. Church on time is not the thing that terrifies him or makes him party, that's just silly.

Modernnot be love is making him able to trust relationships in general. So it gets him to church on time because God is supposed to be stable and unchanging; the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. The relationship between God and man is not going to change like modern love. He doesn't mean the religion or confession part, though, because those 'rules' of the church seem to change at times. So, in short, the shortcomings of modern love have lead him to only be able to put his trust in God and man.

Lisa Loeb – Stay (I Missed You) Lyrics 17 years ago
You said, "I caught you 'cause I want you and one day I'll let you go.
You try to give away a keeper, or keep me 'cause you know you're just scared
to lose.
And you say, "Stay."

You say I only hear what I want to.

Look at the last line, she says she only hears what she wants to. She made herself hear "one day I'll let you go" and that he's going to give her (a keeper) away, but he might not because he's so scared of being lonely, so he'll ask her to stay. Do you think he really told her "I caught you because I wanted you, but I'll probably ditch you one day." Then she goes on to call herself a keeper, who he couldn't possibly walk away from. My opinion is that she's playing the character at the end, mostly because of that last line. We know from the song that he's the keeper, she's the one leaving, and she's the one scared to lose him--SHE wants him to stay, not the other way around; it's all backwards.

John Mayer – Why Georgia Lyrics 17 years ago
Notice the commas; it could be written "Why? Why Georgia? Why?" I think it is more of a "Why here? Why now? Why this place?" kind of comment. That place just happened to be Georgia (a personal touch). He believes that "everything happens for a reason", but he's trying to figure out what that reason is and what the final verdict will be--is he living it right? There's a reason he moved to Georgia, there's a reason this happened and such and such happened, but what is that reason exactly? Maybe his circumstances were such that it felt like uncontrollable events practically drew him to this place. Now he's wondering why. Also, he could literally be asking Georgia (the state), "Why am I here Georgia? Why was I lead here? Am I living it right?"

Needtobreathe – Washed by the Water Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm guessing the first paragraph is about his dad being a preacher. The church was his wife. And apparently he had people telling him he made the wrong choice by becoming a preacher. He could have done this or that, but he decided to be a preacher. These people probably didn't believe in God. That's what I get from it.

Lisa Loeb – Stay (I Missed You) Lyrics 17 years ago
Well for all of you that think that this song is about a guy who is treating the girl badly...you're only hearing what you want to, and focusing on the negative. It's obvious that she is saying she was wrong, and he was right. He treated her very well, but it obviously wasn't good enough for her because she only focused on the negative. He told her this and she wouldn't listen, she thought he was wrong. When they break up, she realizes how good she had it before and that she really was just focused on the negative and was very lucky to have him. This is not a song about a girl who was oppressed, but a song about a girl who is humbled by the realization that she was wrong and should have listened.
