I think it's about post traumatic stress disorder. A soldier returns from a conflict and is screwed up, running from his problems, running so quick to take his mind off what he's seen. The last lines suggest he should join a support group. I agree with fleaaaaa that this song could have been done better. The cover by ThouShaltNot has a much darker sound which is more fitting for a song like this. |

I think it is about the fall from grace of HS athlete/coach. This person gets in an inappropriate relationship with a girl and people don't look up to him anymore. The point of view is from a student or collegue that still believes in the person despite his mistake and is defending him against rumors (Hey Shut Up). The line about the verdict being delivered in the staff room makes me think it might be a coach because it sees unlikely a student's relationship would need a verdict in a staff room however inappropriate. Wouldn't that be a job for the principal? But then again maybe my interpretation is colored because my HS cross country coach got stung by the cops a few years after I graduated for trying to hook up with a teenage girl. |
