Cracker – Low Lyrics 17 years ago
Ok I hate to do this, I dont want every post that I make to say something like "hey this song was about drugs..." but come on... And I found it rather funny that the adds on the side of the page are for help with heroin addiction.

This whole song is based on doing heroin.

"Sometimes I wanna take you down
Sometimes I wanna get you low
Brush your hair back from your eyes
Take you down, let the river flow..."
-He is trying to convince is "girlfriend" to get "stoned" with him, and let the "river flow"

A blue blue is the sun
A brown brown is the sky
A green green are her eyes
A million miles, a million miles"
-All relates to the different names heroin has taken on over the years.
"Blue" is "Blue Magic" that was sold by Frank Lucas crew throughout New York in the late 60's and early 70's.
"Green" stands for one of two things, The gang "Green Dragons" which was a New York based gang that offered protection for heroin dealers. The gang was dismembered in the early 90's.
Or it could be meant for the slang "green dragon" which on the streets means any sort of drug that is a depressant.
"Brown" referred to a batch of brown heroin from Afghanistan that arrived in the UK around the late 70's. Also on the streets today heroin is known as "Brown".

Oleander – Why I'm Here Lyrics 17 years ago
I love this song. It is a shame that they didn't become more well-known.

One thought though: The bass at the beginning of the song reminds me of Nirvana's "Rape Me" Might just be me....

Jane's Addiction – Jane Says Lyrics 17 years ago
"I'm going away to spain when i get my money saved
I'm gonna start tomorrow"

"She walks up on St. Andrews
She waits
And gets her dinner there
She pulls her dinner
From her pocket..."

-To me this is the best part of the whole song. It conveys the lure that drugs have. The endowed seeking of a better life, or an escape to an unknown mellon collie. The promise that under this life of lies there is purpose, and all you have to do is leave the town and people that infest it behind, never truly dealing with the problem at hand. So poetic in its irony.

Mad Season – River of Deceit Lyrics 17 years ago
"I could either burn,
Or cut off my pride, and buy some time,
A head full of lies is the weight, tied to my waist"

If we look at this song from the point of view of someone with an addictive personalty then it is fair to say that Layne (or anyone else) has to depart from there pride to continue on the path that they have chosen.

"A head full of lies is the weight, tied to my waist" I believe that he is trying to say that all of his addiction weigh heavy on his mind.

"The River of Deceit pulls down, ohh
The only direction we flow is down..." Wow some of the most powerful lyrics I have ever heard. So simplistic yet so full of meaning. Again Layne is trying to pervade the fact that along with addiction comes the solitude of lies and deceit. If one continues down this path the only way to go is down.

"I could either drown
Or pull off my skin and swim to shore
Now I can grow a beautiful shell for all to see..." Again Layne is saying that he could either destroy the person that he has become, or shed everything, and start over. Or he could build a viscid so that he appears to have his addictions under control.

Layne will be forever remembered as a tortured soul, in consent battle with the evils of his addictions, and he will be forever missed as the great poet he was....

Screaming Trees – Nearly Lost You Lyrics 17 years ago
TFU... I would say that I would have to agree with you. Although I hate to agree with the statement "Considering the Seattle scene its almost certainly about heroin..." I would have to that this song is about heroin. "Did you hear the distant cry, calling me back to my sin..." I mean in the first line he is basically telling you what the song is about. Trying to pin the blame on the drug itself removing himself of any fault, classic addiction 101. Trying to justify it in his mind.

"There's a rider that's fallen and It's clear there's no time to return..." He is saying that he's become complacent with the fact that this addiction will never change, no matter how far it takes him, or who he will lose in path towards self destruction. Honestly one of the saddest song I've heard...
