I agree that the song is about a relationship between a father and a daughter, but I believe the two in the song are actually related. The woman is angry at her father for depriving her of a childhood. And Smithy, the bum is saying her anger is so obvious that he can see it in her eyes. The woman has lived a difficult life, hence 'not a stranger to the fight.' The bum visits her everyday to make up for the time he wasn't there for her as a child, and he realizes it when he says he should of been a better father. He sees how his actions affected his daughter badly. This is the way I see it, because I can personally relate to the story. This has to be my fav. song off the new album. |

Wow. If you read this song in thought that it is speaking about Hip Hop, it kind of clicks. But this song seems to be so versatile that it could have many meanings... |

I agree with 'Adrizzo' -- I have encountered many who say this song changed their life. At the time I didn't understand why because it had no affect on me. I began listening to Atmosphere more and more as time passed, and eventually this song became clear. It struck me as the beauty of women, Slug speaks of an experience that changed his insight of women. I learned in an interview he did that he refers to God as a women because, woman is mother nature and creates life. Atmosphere continues to change my insight and help me grow. |
