| I've always thought of the water as thoughts inside her head, problems, words building up. Some people are so good at being contained and always remaining perky, or smooth on the surface (like ice), but Regina is speculating about how she "is not a skillful water carrier," or can't keep these things inside. She instead expresses herself in songs, or even to a near stranger (someone "watching in the shadows" who has seen her "lose all the water from her hands.") I can relate to this song because I am an Aquarious, and overanalyze things to the point where I have to talk to somebody to straighten out my thoughts, and learn to carry love. | |

I feel like this song is a very fluid stream of consciousness (per usual with Regina). Rather than a lesbian love song, or any direct message being sent, it's the voices and sounds buzzing around in a person's head through a day. The "I'm in love with your daughter..." line is very incongruous with the rest of the song, and I think it is probably a new dream, a new thought. To me, this song perfectly describes the hum of living in a messy world, interacting with thousands of people, and sometimes feeling like you are not yourself at all. Trying on new identities and seeing which ones fit, and I think when she sings "I have gone away, don't call me don't write" she is retreating deeper into her head to mull things over further. Anyway, that's my theory. =) |
