Oh, I love this song. The first few times I listened to it, I really didn't pay much attention to the lyrics. But the lyrics are just so interesting that I had to figure out what it all meant. After many listens, I discovered, like heeeyyyjude, that the woman selling things and Jim were married, as evidenced by the line, "Living is the problem". And did anybody else take it that maybe, "My husband is leaving and I can't convince him to stay" means that Jim is going to "leave" by killing himself? She goes on to talk about how she is hard to live with and everything. Just a thought. I also think that the woman at the wake and the woman selling things could be the same person. They both talk about the slow fade of love as it relates to Jim. Ooh, and a small nitpick, shouldn't it be "hanged" instead of "hung"? Although I do realize that hung sounds better in the song... |

I think this song is definitely about someone having an affair with their professor! haha. He sings, "I see you...cruel professor studying romances", so I think the "you" is this professor. And I agree with Vampire Weekend=Love, I think he really does love her, but because of the stigma of dating a professor, he has to pretend he never wants to see her again. Anyway, I love the song and how upbeat it is. |
