I don't know the circumstances, but it sounds to me like a group of some sort went to take a man to punish him with death for something (maybe he's a criminal or they think he is, anyways). His daughters (or schizophrenic daughter) saw them taking him away and started screaming, and the people found out they were his daughters so they shot them. the talk about the tree is I think just their ghosts remaining in the trees (maybe they lived in a forest) it makes me think of early america, perhaps salem, personally. something about cocorosie always says witchcraft XD |

I always thought this song went along with their other songs in referring to WWI and WWII. I figured this was like from the point of view from a nazi regretting killing all the jews.... Personally, that's just me. I loved the preaching bit at the end, though, it was surprising, but in a good way. |

This song is about him trying to figure out if God is real or not. He's leaning more towards the fact that God exists, but he wishes he could be closer. I could be wrong, but I don't think the black and gold is just referring to the stars. I think the black is people and their sins, and then the gold is god and purity. Geddit? |

um, wow, no. for lots of songs, people DO try to squeeze any sign of religion into it. But that doesn't mean that all songs that people say 'this is religious' are not religious, and this song is definitely about God. If it were a song about love, there would be no reference to the theory of evolution or the talk of matter or the whole 'seeing is believing' part. Like, seriously, I don't even know how you can miss that, it's so completely obvious. You're the one who's being annoying by trying to turn the song into a love song. Not every song is about love and life, you know. You're also just trying to find any possible ways of connecting the song with romance. |

I hear this song and think of a girl who tries her hardest to get her father to pay attention to her. She keeps thinking that she's been doing something wrong, because she's never been 'daddy's little girl'. My favorite verse is: and if she runs away she fears she won't be followed. It's just so sad. imagine fearing nobody noticing if you just... disappear. |

Honestly, I don't watch the OC, so I have no idea what everyone is talking about. What I've always thought about is World War II. Where are we? What the hell is going on? The dust has only Just begun to fall Crop circles in the carpet Sinking feeling {when Hitler first rounded up the Jews, they didn't know what was going on. They were just loaded up and their families seperated.} Spin me 'round again And rub my eyes This can't be happening When busy streets a mess with people Would stop to hold their heads heavy {The Nazis would go through the streets and take Jews forcibly. If they resisted, they were beaten} Hide and seek Trains and sewing machines All those years They were here first {not sure about the sewing machines, but the trains remind me of how 150 fit in one train car on the way to execution/concentration camps. The war lasted for years, but the Jews were their first, the Natzis had no right to kill them} Oily marks appear on walls Where pleasure moments hung before The takeover The sweeping insensitivity Of this Still life {people were dying, and they only way to go on was to become numb and work as hard as you could not to be sent off to die} Hide and seek Trains and sewing machines (Oh you won't catch me around here) Blood and tears They were here first {this kind of speaks for itsself. Blood and tears, the torture that the Jews indured. } Mm what d'ya say? That you only meant well, well, of course you did This, it's all for the best, of course it is That it's just what we need, you decided this What did you say? {Hitler was crazy, he thought he was doing what he thought was right. the Nazi leaders were on trial and many of them were executed.} Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth Mid-sweet talk newspaper word cut outs Speak no feeling, no, I don't believe you You don't care a bit {lots of people don't care what happened. they think it won't happen again, and some even don't believe it even happened} that's how I interperate this song. |
