| Gnarls Barkley – Who Cares? Lyrics
|
I always felt like this song was about dealing with depression - there's all this stuff the singer could be interested in, and try to share with people and grow close and stuff, but really why even both, because who cares?
The last part seems like a realization that maybe he can move on and start living his life again, and start to make people care. Kind of a hopeful ending, if you will, especially with the line, "I see a little light, even though it is still night." He hasn't pulled himself out of depression yet, but he is on the way, and there's a light at the end of the tunnel. |

I am in love with this song, it's so eerie and moving. Personally, I don't think it's about Native Americans, but maybe that's because of the influence of current events and I automatically assume Mojique is in the middle east.
Anyways, this is a beautiful song that still holds meaning 30 years after it's release. Amazing. |

This song is what first got me into Broken Social Scene - I had a bunch of their songs on my iPod cause I got them from a friend, but I usually skipped them on shuffle. Once, I randomly heard this song and fell in love. It's definitely still my favorite song by them! |

| Eminem – When I'm Gone Lyrics

God, this song is incredible, as are all the songs Eminem's made that focus on his relationship with his daughter. It's obvious he loves his daughter more than anything else in the world, and although he's had some problems, he wants to be there for her as much as possible. I almost cry every time I listen to this, it's so moving. |

I am so in love with this song, I heard it on the radio, and can't stop listening.
He seems to be talking about someone who's dissed him, because she thinks she's better than him, but he's calling her out as completely fake. It's almost a little bitter, but mostly mocking. Fantastic! |

| Eminem – Cleaning Out My Closet Lyrics

Wow, this song is why I love Eminem. He has absolutely no qualms about telling the world about his life and his experiences. He doesn't mince his words, he just "spits it better than 90% of rappers out there" (to quote another Eminem song) and lays his whole life clear for everyone to see. Now that's courage.
It's especially moving for me, because I feel a lot of the same feelings towards my own mother, although not quote on the same level. She kind of destroyed my childhood. Listening to this song makes me cry, sometimes. |

| Flobots – We Are Winning Lyrics

I classify myself as one of those people who got the album because of "Handlebars" but upon listening to the entire album, I quickly realized that "Handlebars," although being the most catchy, easily accessible song on the album, is certainly not the best song. When I listened to this song, it made me stop, and really listen to the rest of the album, and I realized that it is really incredible. It definitely changed the way I see my life, and has made me more interested in helping change the world, or at least my own life.
The most meaningful line in this song, possibly the entire album, has to be "There is a war going on for your mind. If you are thinking, you are winning." That's what really caught my attention. |

I kind of agree with Cape Kid's idea on this one, although the problem in the relationship doesn't have to be cheating. He's upset with her for some unknown reason, and he's being stubborn and won't let them work things out. |

This song is beautiful. The words flow together perfectly, and really make you want to listen. And when you do listen, the meaning behind the verses suddenly blooms forth.
It's all about how the media, government, and corporation are all fighting for the attention of our minds, and we need to fight to keep our minds our own. |

This song is so fantastic. I bought her album, cause I loved Love Game, Poker Face, and Just Dance when I heard them on the radio, and I listened to this song and just...immediately fell in love.
It sounds so sweet, but kinda creepy - just like a stalker (which, in essence, is what the paparazzi are). A stalker would think following his/her stalkee is sweet, while the stalkee would think it was creepy. I think the mix of emotions makes for an awesome song. |

The end of this song gives me shivers. It's completely incoherent, yet somehow I end up picture some sort of desperate situation, where someone is just...trying to cope. Which is exactly how you feel when anything close to you dies...be it dog, cat, friend, family, etc. |

| Jesus Christ Superstar – Heaven on Their Minds Lyrics

I love that this whole musical focuses on how Judas was not an evil man, just a man unsure of what position Jesus' whole "King of the Jews" thing would leave the Jews in, in the long run.
"Listen Jesus, do you care for your race?
Don't you see we must keep in our place?
We are occupied
Have you forgotten how put down we are?
I am frightened by the crowd
For we are getting much too loud
And they'll crush us if we go too far
If we go too far " |

God this song is beautiful. I never thought I'd say that about a rap song, but it really is just deep, and sad, and beautiful. My heart aches every time I listen to it.
I do agree that I wish the last line, "don't fuck with dad" wasn't there, just to make an Eminem song totally completely clean, for once. Even so, it's a great song. |

Wow, the majority of the people posting on this song are so close minded. How can anybody possibly say that every single song of a genre suck, and that all the songs are shit? I understand that you may not like the music, but you can't say that there's no talent - it seems fairly obvious that it takes a lot of effort and talent to produce a rap like this.
I personally love just about every genre of music. The only this I have trouble liking the majority of is country and hardcore death metal, and even there, I find that there are songs in the genre that I find appealing.
Anyways, I LOVE this song, it's funny and catchy. I have a problem with the fact that I listened to this song when I was in 4th grade, it's extremely inappropriate. Fortunately I didn't listen to the lyrics too much, just the chorus, haha. |

This song can have so many meanings, it can really be interpreted just about however the listener wants to interpret it.
My interpretation is that he is heartbroken. Maybe he's been rejected by someone he really loves, or just got out of an intense relationship. But whatever the reason, he wants to forget how he feels, but he can't, no matter what he does.
Every time I hear this song, I end up listening to it multiple times. It's just...intensely moving. |

"Well I don't need nothin' before the show
I don't need nothin', well that's not so

This seems like the progression of drug use - where the user starts out saying, "I don't need anything," progessing along, until eventually, he's dependent on the drug. |

| Panic! at the Disco – Build God, Then We'll Talk Lyrics

"[the rooms have a] habit of decomposing right before your very (lalalala) eyes / Along with the people inside."
Favorite lines in the entire song. It's saying that, once the people who spend a night in the sleazy motel leave, they are forgotten by all involved. The "virgin" (a prostitute?) forgets the lawyer, as he blends in with her other 'clients'. The lawyer forgets the prostitute, as he goes home to his wife. The night and the people involve basically "decompose" until they are completely forgotten.
This song just sends shivers down my spine. |

| Modest Mouse – Doin' the Cockroach Lyrics

Four of five years ago at summer camp, someone in my camp group played a Modest Mouse CD while we were driving to our camping site. I slept through most of the car ride, so I never really heard any of the music, but for some reason the name stuck with me.
About a year and a half ago, I downloaded a couple modest mouse songs off of the internet, this being one of them. They sat around on my iTunes for a while, until I finally put them on my iPod, where they continually got skipped in my shuffle as I searched for songs I liked.
Then, I heard "Float On" on the radio just under a year ago, and decided to finally give Modest Mouse a shot. I listened to a couple songs, which were great, but then this song came on, and I was transfixed. I think I listened to it twenty times in a row, and never got tired of it. This is absolutely my favorite Modest Mouse song ever, followed closely by "Ocean Breathes Salty" and "Education"
Well done, Modest Mouse, well done. |
