| I feel like this song is more about his father than it is about Caleb. His father was a pentecostal preacher and the line "with this harvest of hearts/I still feel full of pain" seems to refer to this. If it is about their father, the lines "I get lost in the lights/so high, I don't want to come down" would be talking about a spiritual high -- same with the dancing and the "fire in my bones" lyrics -- instead of one induced by drugs or alcohol. "Born to run, baby, run" I think also talks about the fact that he was a traveling preacher and couldn't settle down. Their father divorced their mother and I feel like this is just the feeling of their relationship with their father after the divorce. I knew a bit about the history of it before I sat down and gave the song a good listen so maybe I was jumping to conclusions about it. | |

| My version definitely has those last four lines as well. | |

I think this song sounds like a disillusionment with religion, specifically Christianity. "He believes in the love in his god of all things But I find him wrapped up in all manner of sins" These lines sounds frustrated with the hypocrisy that Christians are accused of because they often believe that they are forgiven of sins even as they commit them. "I don’t believe in a fairytale end" sounds almost like she accusing the Christian belief in heaven/paradise to be naïve. I’m not sure how my interpretation works out with the rest of the song, but the use of Geneva could be an allusion. Also, I don’t understand how the lyrics quoted by elfrijol would work out if she does use them interchangeably. |
