The song seems to be about someone trying to find his or herself within another person. The person tries to make himself out to be something that's appealing to the other, and then gets angry when it doesn't work with anyone, so they find another. Of course, this isn't the easy way out, and you can never appeal to everyone. The person then find himself without a soul "disappeared within himself". The "invisible man", who always changes clothes (nobody knows who they are). I don't think this is about Elliot Smith himself, as Elliot doesn't seem like the person described here. |
