Cradle of Filth – Tortured Soul Asylum Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Actually, they aren't Cenobites in Nightbreed. Cenobites are the creatures who claim the life of whoever has opened the Lament Configuration in Hellraiser. Anyway, Hailtothemike is almost correct. He is mostly correct in his references. But the song is not just simply based on the movie. It's more of a man who has created this world (Midian) in his head. It's his escape from his conscious mind into imagination. The more he thinks about it, the more real it becomes, and he swears he's seen it. His strong belief causes his local society to think he is insane so he is taken to a mental ward where he still dreams of escape, but is having doubts of Midian's existence. use these lines as reference: "Sore sights that preyed on Me for days And in laudanum's haze I painted them all...." [laudanum produces hallucinaions] "I know I've seen Through the blackbacked mirrors in sanity Lucent prides amassed in last retreat Prurient souls but no more freaks Than those leashing dreams at harm's length from Me And just like grim ascension prophecies My revenge, carved deep, will be A grisly plot that reads Like My filthy white ward spattered with their screams When My Deviliverers come from fog for Me...." [He is still fighting for his belief that the Nightbreed will come to rescue him] "Exhuming the moon Through the bars in My room The sooner the bitter pills swallowed are through.... But no Genotypes, Aphrodites Daemonarchetypes No Cenobites rise to claim Me for you" [He is starting to realize that none of these creatures are coming to save him. He is alone with only his imagination] "No! No! No! Don't leave here in this storm weathered cell No! No! No! With prophets and losses And dead men on crosses My fate is a preview of derelict Hell" [This is obvious. He is getting desparate and crying out. He does not wish to be stuck in the mortal world where others' beliefs do not match his own. He wants to be with beings that can share his pain, his thoughts, and his feelings. But all he has are his reflections of his own mind, and his padded walls.] |
Cradle of Filth – Tearing The Veil From Grace Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I was hoping someone would remember the theme of Midian, Lovecraft and Barker's characters. If people have seen the movie 'Nightbreed' or read Barker's book 'Cabal' you would see that Dani has written these characters as heroes and victors in this song. While also entwining other chracters and stories. This song is definately one of my favs. Along with "Queen of Winter, Enthroned" |

Sie sind es die sich anderlieb festhalten fur immer betend auf knien vor der (finisteren) gotten It's basically saying "They pray for that which is never recieved" |
Cradle of Filth – Summer Dying Fast Lyrics | 16 years ago |
to v-empire, he is stating that after the war is over, and the antagonists have been vanquished, the 'others', being the victors or Pagans, will have their day to roam. And of course this isn't Dani's best lyrical work, it was written in 1994. It's one of his first writings that was written to CoF music |
Cradle of Filth – Stay Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's actually written in a female's aspect. Because we should all know that, yes it is a cover of Shakespeare's Sister's orginal. Two characters are involved, the good and the bad. Plus the male role in the middle, but he has no lyrical content. One of the characters is light, and one is darkness. That is the obvious basis of the song. It could be as simple as a woman speaking to her lover while he is dreaming, expressing her love. While the world of dreams is trying to keep him. It reminds me of the painting by Bill Stoneham entitled "The Hands Resist Him". It could also be about a woman whose lover has fallen into a coma and death is trying to take him over, but she is trying to lull him back to wake. Pretty great song though. |
Cradle of Filth – Of Mist And Midnight Skies Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Yes he says Jesus Fucking Christ. Holy shit. First of all, Kandy, Cradle of Filth is not a band that makes music for Christians. So go back to church. Secondly that verse is a reference to the Coppola's Dracula. In which his wife, Elizabeta, was taken from him. So he "renounces God" and delves into Darkness. This song is full of the occult and homage to things that are not of god or of light. It does pay homage to the Crusades. And it's a slap to the face of people who condemn the occult for being 'evil'. Hence "If Evil we be, we will our lives to mist and midnight skies". A persons spiritual beliefs does not make them evil, but the Christian way is to see what isn't of their faith as evil. And the line 'Do What Thou Wilt' is not CoF's motto. It's an earlier motto strengthened by Crowley signifying spiritual path. But in the song it is saying that the persecutionists can push as hard as they may, but the Protagonist will not back down from his beliefs. In essence he is a martyr. |
Cradle of Filth – Nocturnal Supremacy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is based on a fairytale about Rorasa. A woman who cannot find the right man to marry, so she throws herself to death. On her way down, she is saved by the moon goddess Diana, and thenceforth puts her faith into Her. In the actual tale, she never dies, and gets married to the man of her dreams. But since Dani likes to twist fairytales, he has taken the perspective of a man who was in love with Rorasa, but learned of her death so he feels great pain in the beginning. But since Rorasa has been saved by the Dark Goddess, she comes to him with the mind that she and him can use this power to cheat death under the prowess of the moon. And then of course Dani hints at vampirism, and paganism which would lead to Anti-Christian endeavors such as burning the temples of Christ. Fair enough by my standards |
Cradle of Filth – Ebony Dressed For Sunset Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is simple. Though amazing and atmospheric. And Ebony is a reference to the color black. If you knew Dani's lyric writing well enough, or any other poet for that matter, they don't always use words in their fullest literal meaning. This song is simply an introduction into the dark theme of the EP. Which of course speaks of mysticism, vampirism, romance, and "The Rape and Ruin of Angels". |
Rob Zombie – Dragula Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Oh my god. The majority of you are idiots. There were a few good posts. Absentshadow had an interesting take. Though, while Rob Zombie is a brilliant mind, I'm not sure he takes his writing so seriously. References to freedom may be a better bet. And as far as the description of Rob Zombie's music being metal, or 'techno-metal': the genre is called industrial. White Zombie leaned more towards a metal groove, not Rob's later persona. People really shouldn't post on music sites if they know nothing about music. As far as you people and your bickering about witchcraft, first of all, this site is not about religion, so go find some wicca forum. Secondly, Rob isn't speaking of Contemporary Wiccans, or Witches. If anyone has ever seen 'Horror Hotel' (which, yes, is where the opening line "Superstition, Fear, and jealousy" came from) you would know that that film had much to do with witchcraft. Albeit a terrible take on what Witchcraft is truly about, but it dealt with it nonetheless. Since there is no one interpreted meaning to a song, other than that of the writer's, I think the song (apart from the obvious Munsters reference) is about a liberty and larger than life feel that one may recieve when you grasp something you've wanted for so long. Our values, depending on the guage can become an empowering force when achieved. And we all know Rob's love for old horror movies and almost unnoticable trinkets and quotes from them. And for those of you who say "This song has no meaning" or "Who gives a fuck what it means": Every song has a meaning. And obviously you should, otherwise why are you on a site called 'songmeanings.com'? |
