It seems to me that this song is the antithesis of a love song and that somehow makes it one. It's all those things you might sometimes think of saying to someone you love, but don't. It reminds me of an SNL skit where this couple is at each others' throats throughout their meal and then they end up having sex in the kitchen. This song is gorgeous. |

| aicguy22, i read the same thing many years ago. summerland is like most any goal - it is attainable. all you have to do is take that exit. but something in your life is always keeping you from it. you've got somewhere to be, and you always pass it by. i've wanted to just drive by that sign ever since i read what he said about the song. however, i live about 1,000 miles away. :( | |

| This song isn't autobiographical. It's just this story that Art made up - likely something he might have heard of where he grew up, but definitely not about him. I read about some of the song meanings a long time ago where Art was actually telling what they meant and he said that after he sang this song, Greg (who was pretty new to the band) apologized about his mom and Art was like "huh?" and he was like "the song" and Art told him it wasn't a true story. I think of that every time I hear this song. | |
