The version by Robyn is almost as good!

Most off-the-wall lyric in the whole song?

"I met your children."

Somehow that line makes my day.

I enjoy how a very weird voice is, after a few lines, surpassed by an even WEIRDER voice. Can we make sense of this song? As the lyrics point out, "Yeah, you wish."

This song is genius! I know it's meant to be a spoof of 70s and 80s rock, but it tells a compelling narrative about how we're never happy with what we have. (Plus, it rocks.) I love when the speaker decides he needs to get BACK to his Hell Hole, where "folks lend a hand" and where you "know where you stand." Isn't that the truth!

This song is Art -- nothing commerical about it. This and "The Rain Song" are my favorites of LZ.

The only song that can make me cry, even when I'm in the best of moods. Superb!

Donovan – Hurdy Gurdy Man Lyrics 17 years ago
My new favorite song. After watching ZODIAC a year ago, I was haunted by this song for months. I agree with steroblo: it feels like such a dark song, probably because I'm associating it with the film. Even still, there's a mournful quality that would strain against the upbeat lyrics even without the film. I don't know who is responsible for it, but the guitar solo rocks.
