I always thought it was "You say 'I love you' but it ain't true" and instead of "I like to grab you by the hair" I'd imagine it as "I'd like to grab you by the hair"... Kind of like I would, but I can't.
I guess it just makes more sense to me because I'm always thinking it's about ruining someone with the relationship they have with you. You feel anger toward them but in the end, you can't decide what to do exactly or how to do it. |

I love Geddy Lee and of course I love Rush.. I think Geddy kept with him the same intelligence from Rush's lyrics because this seems like another great song with great advice. Advice for love and life, maybe? You've got to want and work for better things for them to get better. |

For one thing, I think you have the order of people wrong when they speak. On both verses, you have "Hotel" starting off. On the second verse though, it should be "VV" starting off (like it should say V: Livin' in a suitcase). Just pointing it out though, no big deal.
All of these ideas are agreeable but quite honestly, it doesn't seem like it has an EXACT meaning to it (to me at least). A lot of musicians write music like that sometimes but i guess you never know. |

This song is even better LIVE cuz they put more to it. I honestly dont care what anyone else says about it cuz this song is SIMPLY great! In fact, I dont think The Raconteurs ever really care about what the puplic thinks anyway! :D It gives you more to admire!
It's so funny with the very first comment that was made for this at the top... cuz "neverheardofhim" was right about them becoming a great band for the future but wrong about the older songs being the best cuz look at Consolers Of The Lonely (their new album)? THIS BAND SIMPLY ROCKS!!! |

I've noticed that right at the beginning, u hear a woman laughing "ahahahaha, JACK!" and says the name "JACK" the same time the other girl says the word "chicken." I actually wouldn't be surprised if that was Jack's wife but u never know 4 sure...
I'd also have to say that Bwalshy was right and BB definately says "Let's double track that" cuz they double track all the time!! i know about this cuz i own a multi-track recorder and i use it all the time. |

I'm not really sure but whenever I think about it, I always come back to the thought of it being about a relationship. It's like he really likes her but is sorta waiting 4 her to say something but she won't so he gets confused and frustrated. ? not sure, though. |
