Iron & Wine – Fever Dream Lyrics 17 years ago
This is one of those few songs where it really means what it means to the person listening. I can understand the point about absense, but what I take out of it is different. I think he's having a moment to pause and reflect on this girl he loves while she's sleeping beside him. As he watches her sleeping, the rain is falling slowly outside and he relates that to her love that showers him in her grace. He comes to the realization just how precious this girl is to him and how his love for her has become so innate and pure. It's unlike anything he's ever felt and he knows that for the first time it's real.

Pink Floyd – Poles Apart Lyrics 17 years ago
My favorite Floyd album outside of maybe Dark Side of the Moon.

I honestly don't think this song is really about Syd at all. It's about the clash of ego's between Gilmour, Wright, Mason against Waters. Particularly once the band broke up. I think that it was a challenge for Gilmour to continue on the band and that underneath it was really almost a competition of achievement and accomplishment. Towards making "The Wall", Floyd had become a vehicle for Roger Water's flambouyant songwriting and he really became the "Golden Boy," of the group while everyone else despised him for being so controlling over everyone in the group. Regardless of it all, in the end Gilmour really triumphed and has become very accomplished, much more so than Waters. It's all about the long run of their relationship and the band. He talks about how Water's had blossomed into this incredible songwriter with Dark Side of The Moon, but eventually everything he did lacked soul- even now.

David Gilmour – Take a Breath Lyrics 17 years ago
Call me crazy but I think he almost combined the lyrics to two different songs into one. I believe the first two verses are all about dealing with anyone's ego. Even his own. The third and forth verses are about letting someone fall and justifying it. Whether it be in regards to a lover or friend. Both seem compatiable to the lyrics.

It's tiring to hear that every song has some relation to Syd Barrett. If anyone has ever listened to anything involving him as a front man knows that he is very overrated. I think Gilmour kinda felt that way too. Roger's held the whole Syd affair alittle closer to his heart anyway.

David Gilmour – A Pocketful Of Stones Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song is about a man who has never allowed anyone to ever really love him. He's always pushed away typical happiness in every shape and form. Now he's become an old man living in his own world, alone. He's starting to really hit a point of self-actualization where life is soon coming to an end and he's finally looking back on what's been left behind. The worst part of it is that he knows he'll never change.

That's what I took away from it anyhow.
