| Evanescence – Secret Door Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Why does everyone insist on posing lyrics before the album comes out?! Official lyrics: Turn out the lights Feed the fire till my soul breaks free My heart is high as the waves above me Don't need to understand Too lost to lose Don't fight my tears cause they feel so good And I I will remember to fly Unlock the heavens in my mind Follow my love back through the same secret door Look past the end It's a dream, as it's always been All life lives on if we've ever loved it And I I will remember how to fly Unlock the heavens in my mind Follow my love back through the same secret door (All line breaks, punctuation, etc were copied from the album jacket) |

| Evanescence – Swimming Home Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Why do people post leaked lyrics? They're hardly ever completely correct. -_- The lyrics as indicated in the album jacket are: Way down, I've been way down underneath this skin waiting to hear my name again I'm sorry nothing can hold me I adore you still but I hear them calling and nothing can hold me Way down, all the way down I will hear your voice but I'll no longer understand I'm sorry nothing can hold me I adore you still but I hear them calling I was looking to the sky when I knew I'd be swimming home and I cannot betray my kind They are here it's my time I'm sorry nothing can hold me I adore you still but I hear them calling and nothing can hold me (line spacing, punctuation, etc have been copied exactly) |

| The Birthday Massacre – Midnight Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This has to be my favorite song off of the new album. The vocals are a bit different than what I expect out of TBM. I don't really hear any remnants of Play Dead like Mechadollie suggested... |

| The Birthday Massacre – Lovers End Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I do like the cheating-lover-death-n'd00m interpretation but I thought I'd contribute an equally uplifting interpretation myself. I see it as something a bit less...blatant. A person (since I am a female I interpret it as a female) goes to the park. Dare could be literal, or it could be her going to meet someone she doesn't know very well and contain the same sense of stupidity and nervousness that goes along with doing both. She is raped (which is something that happens in the part often, what was referenced in the first stanza, and probably why she would've been dared to go there). Then in the third stanza a figurative lover is described. I tend to interpret it as the girl's personality (ability to love, show affection, function) struggling to surface after she hides parts of herself. Then, once she finally lets her entire personality surface she dislikes it intensely. |

| The Birthday Massacre – Looking Glass Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Might consider that Rainbow has admitted to writing a lot of their songs, many of which are directed at Chibi, written about his observations of her, or written as though he were her lover or an avid fan. I'm going to enterpret it as being specifically about Rainbow and Chibi because no one has yet, though I tend to see it as a much more general situation. Waiting as I'm wanting to Speaking as I'm spoken to Changing to your point of view Fading as I follow you He waits for her to come out on stage or appear at an event, because she is the figurehead of the band. He speaks politely towards fans though he might not want to and typically mirrors Chibi's actions. He feels himself slipping away as he immitates her. Generally speaking, it'd be a person allowing their lover to decide where to eat, what both are going to wear, who they'll be hanging out with, etc. The lover making all of the decisions supresses the personality in the other. A boyish notion of false emotion These words are spoken despite my love A fool's devotion was set in motion My eyes are open now Band: While he immitates her he falls in love with her, only to realize after years of immitation that she is not really who he wants her to be or thought her to be. Generally: The passive lover is in love with the aggressive lover but finally speaks up for him/herself. The reaction of the aggressive one opens the passive one's eyes to what has been going on the entire time and that the aggressive lover isn't all that great afterall. It's a glass cage so I can't pretend You hide beneath the physical I see it coming but I can't defend You cut so deep, my belief is gone Band: He feels as though the publicity they feel can't cover up that he's been immitating her, loving her, and is embarrassed by his sudden realization that she isn't so great. Generally: After the realization of what a tool the aggressive lover is, the passive lover starts feeling very exposed and stupid, wondering what others thought of him/her the entire time. He/she feels very hurt at the drama that went down after he/she spoke up to the aggressive lover, particularly since he/she ended up in a giant (verbal) fight that he/she was not expecting and couldn't defend himself/herself in. Tell me what I want to say Save me for another day Break me, it's the game you play Hate me as I turn away Band: At this point he's falling back into the routine they've been in for years because it works, but he doesn't let himself become enamored with Chibi again. Generally: The passive lover stays in the relationship for whatever beneficial reason (could even be financial reasons or living arrangements). The aggressive lover starts doing the same stuff again, but the passive lover just won't have it and doesn't bother to argue, just ignores the entire situation. I also have to agree with someone above...there are strong communist themes in this song, though just about anything that includes a controlling relationship could come off as having communist themes whether they're intended or not. |

| Marilyn Manson – Running To The Edge Of the World Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Opinions on the content of this album and others aside... When you consider that Trent Reznor produced a large portion of Manson's prior albums, wouldn't it follow that an album that was not touched by Reznor be the opposite of selling out? Or maybe not riding someone elses back to fame is selling out these days. People really need to get new rhetoric when it comes to Manson. Copying some statement another person made when his previous album came out is getting very old. |

| Sara Bareilles – Come Round Soon Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Yeah, I take this song as being about someone who is falling for a friend. The friend is probably aware and leading her on a bit and she also reads into everything too much. Then she finally says something and he turns her down for whatever reason and she's fairly dead set on not being hurt and/or ignoring the denial and continuing to pursue him. | |
| Silversun Pickups – Three Seed Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I have two different thoughts on this. The first one is that it's analyzing a particular set of murders in which 2 of 3 were killed. The best one I can think of would be JFK, then his brother (Ted Kennedy being the one that remained). Everything else in the song is a description of the events as well as an analogy to how the nation was before, right after when dealing with it, and then moving on. The second would be a person witnessing or being part of a traumatic event in which 2 people were killed and one was not (presumably the singer, but whether the singer is the one killing or watching is debatable). It could be something like a gang shooting (which is what it sounds like the most to me) in which two friends, fellow gang members or family members were killed. The event could be determined as stripping away all confidence or giving confidence to the person singing depending on how you wanted to view the role the person was taking. |

| 10 Years – Silhouette Of A Life Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I agree with believe25 This definitely sounds more like an accidental overdose than an intentional suicide. One doesn't take an "accidental exit" when committing suicide. It's very purpose-driven, even if there's regret in the end. Also, if you look at most that are addicted to prescription meds, they either take drugs that rev them up or drugs that put them down (hence the forced sleep at the beginning of the song). Mental sodomy could also refer to the damage the drugs are doing to the persons mental state, since drug addiction does a pretty heavy number on lifestyle (including personality, memory, etc). |

| Within Temptation – Frozen Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think the video is just one interpretation. It could also be about helping someone without knowing exactly why and then regrets it. Possibly helping out someone that uses the singer, and the help makes no difference, making the singer feel like they wasted their time. | |
| Regina Spektor – Eet Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
To throw my two cents in on the talk about liking/disliking the album, I've never been able to really get into her. There's been a handful of songs I've liked, but mostly I ignore the rest. Everything except the Dance Anthem from this new album that I've heard has made me appreciate her a lot more. I'm not sure why, exactly. The songs on Far call to me a lot more than most of her others. Does anyone have any idea what's she's referring to with "eet"? I doubt that it's just a noise, considering the song is named that. |

| A Perfect Circle – Weak And Powerless Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| It's incredibly irritating that all people assume everything Maynard does is about him and written by him and that every thing on 13th Step is solely about taking drugs. Talk about thinking inside the box. Pfft. I would offer my own interpretation, but after reading through everything else I don't really see the point. I'll either be argued into the ground that it is indeed about drugs, or the interpretation will be ignored for more "OMGZ, MAYNARD AND DRUGZ!!!" | |
| A Perfect Circle – A Stranger Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I have a few interpretations: ONE I think it might be about someone that is tracking someone but they don't want the person to know about it. It could be to the extent of stalking, or something a lot lesser, like keeping an eye on a co-worker or neighbor. The person singing wants to calm the person into smalltalk and whatnot, but does not want the person to know about his or her somewhat alarming interest. TWO The person singing holds a lot of affection for someone he/she rarely talks to. He/she keeps up to date on whats going on in that person's life. The person has begun a relationship with someone else, and the singer is feeding off of any small attention he/she can get from the person. He/she readily denies any bit of affection because the person is slowly growing more into the other relationship and away from the singer. |

| A Perfect Circle – The Outsider Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Well, after reading several of the thoughts on this song and becoming somewhat annoyed by the gross generalizations made about people, I figured I'd put in my two cents worth. I don't think this is about a Good Charlotte-loving teen, a "punk" or someone that dresses for attention, nor a girl that screams "I'm going to kill myself!" at the drop of a pin if it'll get her attention. I see all of it as a reference to Schizophrenia, particularly the delusional side of it that some experience. Schizophrenics are typically experience depression to an extent (hence the references to suicide). They generally do not want to recognize that they have a disorder ("what would it take to get through to you precious"). Obviously their brains are constructed differently from a "normal" brain ("it's not the way I'm wired"). Generally speaking, Schizophrenics are also medicated...for a time. If the person is delusional, he/she would feel that everything is being targetted at him/her (hence "why would I want to watch you?" and the reference to narcissism). The part where he yells coalesce would be the point in which whoever is dealing with the person would be frustrated enough that they just want him/her to become normal. "They were right about you" would refer to the gossip that ALWAYS goes along with someone having a mental illness. |

| A Perfect Circle – The Nurse Who Loved Me (Failure cover) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I never would've thought to think of rape when I listen to this song. That's an interesting interpretation. Personally, Failure did it well, but I think I prefer APC. The versions I've heard of Failure doing it have all sounded fairly rough, which may be why my opinion sways more towards this version, but the music makes it amusingly disconnected, I think. Failure played it with simple guitar chords instead of some nearly-beautiful, nearly-blissful background music. I find that, plus the smile in Maynards voice, a bit creepier overall. |

| The Birthday Massacre – Goodnight Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| As far as the meaning goes, I think it's about someone who self harms. They're able to control their performance in school, but at home their life is a mess. Whatever they use to harm themselves is really meaningful to them, but they resent it to a certain extent (friend v. lover). The person is unhappy about being less than amazing and feels a lot of release when they harm themselves. The kiss is symbolic for an act of harm. The surfaces replaced indicate covering up the self harm so that anyone that would try to "help" is unaware of the evidence of injury. The person hasn't gone far enough to kill himself/herself, but they intend to (sleeps is symbolic for suicide). | |
| The Birthday Massacre – Goodnight Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I believe a few of these lyrics are off... First place, on a classroom wall Every turn of a face Can help to break the Fall from a domestic disgrace Every rumor displaced is lost and found A lack of discipline One hand to cut the other So unprofessional You're not a friend, you're just a lover Nothing exceptional This is correctional Mirror on the wall Frame the picture Reflect this kiss to wish us all Goodnight First day, in a victim's chair Every surface replaced Can help to keep you FAIR for a correctING gaze Every future displayed Will match your crowd A loss of innocence One hand to wash the other Be a perfectionist You're nothing if your just another Something MATERIAL This isn't personal Mirror on the wall Frame the picture Reflect this kiss to wish us all Goodnight We're all dancing to the same sad song... And we're not sleeping but it won't take long Elicit Confusion Confessions Incomplete Correction Submissive Restriction Instructions will repeat Direction Mirror on the wall Frame the picture Reflect this kiss to wish us all Goodnight |

| The Birthday Massacre – Science Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I believe this is about a relationship that is falling apart. Both are aware, and know that the other is miserable as well, but they can't let go. Even though one starts most of the fighting, he or she feels that the other person is causing a lot of the problems/pain as well (though not in such a manipulative way). There are hopes that one or the other person will end the relationship (hence the miracle). | |
| The Birthday Massacre – Remember Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song is about leaving a place that one has called home for a while. That can be figurative (such as a person/people that made you feel at home) or literal (a neighborhood/city). There's some sort of conflict that causes trouble and the person leaves to avoid the mess, wondering if anyone will care years down the line that he/she left. It also talks about the ties that the person had to the "home" and missing those ties, but ignoring all that those people/places have done and attempting to move on. | |
| Within Temptation – Our Farewell Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this is about a relationship in which both lovers have moved on, but decide to revisit one another to find that at least one of them is miserable. The first verse is reflection on the relationship, the chorus is about the meeting, and the last two verses are emotions based on the results of the meeting. It could also be applicable to a parent/child relationship. | |
| Within Temptation – Forgiven Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this could easily be about someone who is terminally ill or struggling with depression, as others have mentioned. That being said, I also think it could be in regards to a romantic relationship and losing one another for various reasons, or a child moving away from his/her family for whatever reasons (like war, school, carreer, love). It's vague enough to cover just about any kind of loss depending on how you want to interpret it. Personally it sticks to a relationship I had with a very depressed person (who never committed suicide), so it's up to individual interpretation. | |
| Tapping The Vein – Hurricane Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this is about someone you once had the ability and right to touch and care for that left the relationship. You still mourn the relationship and wish the person was still around, but cannot make yourself say the words to them or anyone else. Possible embarrassment at still lingering in the same locations, social circles, or even just being there for the person. | |
| Tapping The Vein – Again Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think it could also be related to Butterfly as well, but I think it's more about being in love with someone and then the love faded away for the person you love. You want the best for them so you let them go, but still have feelings for them and hope they find what they need. | |
