| Band of Horses – No One's Gonna Love You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I don't see this song as depressing. I see it as really sweet. Every relationship goes through ups and downs, and to me, this song is is where a couple are going through a rough time, but he's saying how he firmly believes that the relationship will prevail because they love each other so much, including how much he loves her. He's saying that no one's going to love you more than I do, hence I am not just walking away, we're going to work through this. I can almost picture a couple fighting and them amidst the fight, passion and love just comes out, and he just tells her, "hey, no one's ever gonna love you more than I do, I'm not going anywhere. We're gonna work through this." I would play this at a wedding! I can even kind of imagine the "tumbling down and splitting at the seams" representing old age and complications and death, but above all else, they're always going to love each other more than any one else. I LOVE THIS |

| The Afters – Beautiful Love Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I was just listening to one of my Pandora stations earlier and this song came on. I've never heard it before to my knowledge. But it captured my ears- something exciting and mystical and deep and meaningful about it- so I "liked" it. About an hour later I was compelled to look it up and listen again and read the lyrics. The funny thing is, the feeling I got from the song in the first place, before really tuning into the lyrics is the same - I felt it somehow related to true love and / or something of a deep nature. Upon reading the lyrics along with listening to the song - woah - all I know is that this band definitely makes beautiful music where you can feel the message without even reading the lyrics - the music itself sends the message of the song as well, which makes an awesome band. Anyways, my interpretation of the song is that a person is out under the stars and thinking about where that person who they are supposed to be with is. And if they are under the same stars as well, somewhere, alone just like he is, and he's saying he will try to find her. The stars hold alot of signifigance to him throughout the song - I know I always feel like when nothing is okay, if I can just stand under the stars at night and look at them - somehow I feel this peace - they are timeless - it's like the stars have seen everything for centuries and centuries and they know that they will see me fall in love and watch me go through my hard times but end up happy. I feel like the singer is placing somewhat of the same signifigance in the stars. They hold the secrets of the world, and they won't tell. But oneday he'll be under the stars with his true love, and he knows her smile will hold signifigance to him, and their love will be great. And because he waited for true love to happen, their love will fuel their souls to compell them to do wonderful things that are like ripples in the world - to help make the world a better place. And you don't have to be in love for that to be true, by just loving each other in general, it fuels you and supports you to do good things. Love keeps you going and inspires you. I feel like now anytime I feel lonely this is my go-to song to wait for that right person - this song gets to me so deeply and I just heard it tonight! I love it. I feel like this will help me snap back into the right mindset when I get caught up in everybody being in relationships around me when I'm not. This song will help me snap back to remember to wait for someone who truly loves me this much, who I can truly love back just as much. Wait for a love that fuels you to love others and do good things, a love that stays with you your whole life, and wait to give love that will fuel another person to do the same. |

| Lana Del Rey – Video Games Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Am I the only one who didn't initially think of this song as being sad and about a bad relationship? I can definitely see everybody's interpretations of it being true, however, I felt like this song was more about being inlove and enjoying all the simple things in a relationship. Being young - getting drunk together - just hanging out with friends doing pointless, ridiculous things that might seem lame to outside people, but are actually really good, funny times where you have to "be there to understand" just how funny and fun everything was. Maybe she repeatedly refers to video games because that's the key thing that winds down their day. They sit on the couch and play video games into the night and he includes her into this, aka, he let's her into his world. Anyways, that's why interpretations of songs are fun. There are endless interpretations. |

| Acceptance – So Contagious Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
"Oh no, this couldn't be more unexpected" To me, this song is about a guy who unexpectedly fell for a girl. Maybe she was in his group of friends, maybe he's known her for a long time, or maybe he even recently met her but didn't think anything of it. Whatever the case, it's hit him that he wants this girl. It's like something woke him up and he's like, "woah! why the hell didn't I see this here before?" I think we've all those times where we've realized how awesome someone is and wonder why we weren't initially interested in them. "And I can tell that I've been moving in so slow, don't let it throw you off too far, cause I'll be running right behind you" Now that he realizes his feelings, he's picking up on clues that she's been interested in him as well. He realizes now that things could have already progressed between them had he realized his feelings sooner, so all of a sudden he has become aware of his pace, and he realizes that she might be confused about whether or not he's interested in her, and might give up on him, but now that he knows how he feels, he's going to chase her down and make it obvious. He doesn't want her to get too confused or thrown too far off, because he's going to pick up the pace now. "Could this be out of line? To say you're the only one breaking me down like this" For whatever reason, this attraction may seem uncalled for because apparently it's "out of line". Maybe they're friends so he's wondering if it's out of line, maybe it's a girl with a boyfriend, maybe it's a girl who isn't his usual type. But he realizes now that she's breaking him down. Maybe her words hold weight to him and get to him, maybe he can open up to her easily, or maybe she's just plain getting to him on a different level than normal. "you're the only one I would take a shot on, keep me hanging on so contagiously" he realizes that this girl is worth it and he somehow trusts her, and he can't get enough of her, so he's hanging on "contagiously". Once again, it sounds like they could be friends, and since they've always been there for each other, he knows he can take a chance with her, hence, 'take a shot' on her. "oh, when I'm around you I'm predictable cause I believe in loving you at first sight" The first part is pretty obvious. He's predictable around her. She knows what he's going to do. he always does the same thing. he falls victim to her very easily. The second part kind of contradicts the opening lyrics 'this couldn't be more unexpected'. Because if he didn't expect to feel like this and has been moving in so slow, then how could it be love at first sight? So I think this means that they instantly clicked though he didn't give it much thought at the time, they were already friends, or maybe he now recalls something she said or did when they first met that holds weight to him now. "I know it's crazy but I'm hoping to, to take a hold of you" For whatever reason, this attraction seems uncalled for or crazy. Like I said, maybe they're friends, she has boyfriend,or whatever. But these boundaries don't matter to him anymore. He's smitten and is set on making this girl his. "Oh you're everything I'm wanting come to think of it I'm aching" He suddenly realizes that this girl has everything he wants / needs. "On account of my transgression will you welcome this confession?" He's saying that he realizes he's been slow to acknowledge his feelings, and he's ready to make up for it. He knows what he feels now and he hopes that it isn't too late and that she'll still welcome his confession of feelings. |

| Neon Trees – Animal Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
The guy likes a girl and he's pretty sure she likes him too. They act like friends but they both sense that they want more from each other. But for whatever reasons, they are both scared to fully admit it or pursue anything. The guy notices that they are behaving like animals in the sense that the girl plays hard to get, and the boy must chase her down (if you notice, in the wild, the girl animal usually blows off the male a few times before she finally gives in). Even though they act like they aren't that incredibly interested, he knows they both are, hence the way he mentions that they're playing pretend. He's scared he "won't get out alive" or "I won't sleep tonight" because it's driving him crazy that they're not doing anything about their attraction to each other. The whole chorus seems to be the guy saying "hey, I want more than what we currently have. I want to pursue this further. Go ahead and tell me how you feel, make a move, take a bite of my heart, let me know you want me too so I can give into you fully. What are you waiting for? Things are never going to change if we keep pretending. When he talks about the chemicals kicking in, I think he's talking about he feels his feelings for her hitting him harder and harder as time goes on, and it makes him nervous and scared when she's around, so he wants to run and hide because he likes her more and more as time goes on, and he's scared of getting hurt so he's scared of liking her more. "I do it everytime, you're killing me now" This means perhaps that everytime he has a chance to pursue things further he chickens out, and it's killin' him that she makes him nervous. "I won't be denied by you, the animal inside of you" the guy and the girl act so normal around each other, so calm and such, but he knows that somewhere inside of her, she wants him and she's sexual, and he just wants them both to be able to unleash how they really feel AND indulge in physical relations with one another, and his animal instincts are kicking in because, like in the wild, the male animal takes on the attitude that he will NOT be denied by the female animal. Finally Hush, hush The world is quiet Hush, hush We both can't fight it It's us that made this mess Why can't you understand? Whoa, I won't sleep tonight means that the world is quiet when they are around each other because they are only focusing on each other. He senses that they both can't fight the undeniable attraction to one another. And the mess he's talking about is the mess that they created by flirting and carrying on for a long time without purusuing their feelings, thus creating confusion and an animal-like game out of things, and he won't be able to sleep at night because things have finally gotten to the point where he can't stand it anymore and wants to pursue things further with her. |

| Norma Jean – Death Of The Anti Mother Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I don't think Norma Jean is the kind of band to sing directly about wanting to kill someone and see them die and suffer struggling in their own blood - which is what one could suspect from these lyrics if they interpret them plainly and directly. I don't even think that the record label they're under would support such a thing. I think the song roots deeper - reffering to the "anti-mother" being Satan or the evil part of ourselves that chooses wrong instead of good sometimes. We forget sometimes just how purely evil and wrong sin is, and where we would end up (Hell) if we didn't choose to be saved by Jesus Christ - I think the writer was thinking deeply about just how bad sin is, and just how badly sin has corrupted this world - and he's angered at Satan for causing all of this sin, and he wants Satan to suffer greatly in the end. And at and the end of his lyrics - he says "both of us will burn". I think he means that, if it were not for Jesus Christ, we would suffer in the end just as greatly as Satan will. | |
| Relient K – Deathbed Lyrics | 15 years ago |

The first impression I got of this song was that it was from the point of view of an old man who grew up bitter and cold, and therefore letting it reflect on all his life decisions. He smoked his whole life and obviously that's how he got cancer. He's very old now and has no family or close friends to be with him while he dies. He finally gives into the Lord and no matter what he's done all his life, as the good Lord does, He forgives this man and fills him with hope and love and he doesn't feel alone when he dies, because he's felt the Lord with him. This song made me cry, it's so amazing and is very reflecting of God's love for us. Relient K has a way of getting under your skin with alot of songs. This is amazing. Whether it's about an old man or not doesn't matter, the song is great. |

| Between the Trees – White Lines and Red Lights Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This song, to me, is about a guy who is so in love with a girl. It's safe to say that he's found "the one" that he wants to be with forever. The other huge meaning in this song is that they haven't had sex yet, and he's completely okay with that. Beacuse it's not the sexual intimacy that brings them closer, it's being with her, it's who she is. He' in love with who she is and is willing to wait to have sex beacause that's not the most important thing to him this time around. It's a really sweet song. I think every girl should wait for that guy who would write a song like this about her: About loving who she really is, and willing to wait to have sex. When a guy is really in love with you and really cares, the sex is not the most important thing, and he is willing to put it on the backburner until it feels right for the both of you. |

| Mayday Parade – Save Your Heart Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This song is nearly my anthem when it comes to how I feel sometimes. The meaning can of course vary from person to person but I think most people can say that the meaning is pretty obvious. A girl wants to have true love more than anything. As life happens to her, new guys keep coming her way, and each time a new guy comes around, because she's young, her heart is so resilient that she thinks that maybe this time, this guy is the right one. When in the end, every single guy ends up not caring or loving her, and it ends. This song is encouragement to girls to wait for the right guy. To wait for the guy, that who you might push away, will still come running after you, because he can't live without you. Wait for the person who find you love so much you'd die for him, and he'd die for you. Where he says, Seems like someone said you had it in you (Are you scared?) All along, you said you knew this was wrong But still worth dying for I think that means that all along in each relationship she knew in the back of her head that it was wrong. But she felt it was worth dying for because it's all she had. But in reality, she should wait for the person that REALLY IS worth dying for, who loves her just as much. I also think this song is a means of encouragment not to give their bodies away to lots of guys wh odon't really love them. Aka, not to have sex with guys who don't really love you or want to stay with you. |

| Neon Trees – Your Surrender Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This is what I make of the song: A guy has been seeing a girl for a while or else actually in an official relationship with a girl. She keeps her distance as to protect herself from getting hurt. He really does care about her, and just wants for her to let him in. He can't get as close as he wants to be to her - not just physically, but even more importantly - emotionally. He has deep feelings for her but they can't be fully satisfied unless she opens up her heart to him all the way. The lyrics "I got close to your skin While you were sleeping" seem to suggest a yearning to merely get phyiscally close to her, but I think it has a deeper meaning as well. That meaning being that he can only get close to her when she's not aware. When he's open about his feelings towards her, it scares her and she distances herself more. He can't force her to let him in, so he's waiting on her to open up to him on her own, and it's driving him crazy, and he wants to know, that as true and sincere as he is towards her now - when will she ever surrender her heart to him and just give in? He really cares about her but there's no sure way to make her see. She's got to make the decision to let him on on her own. |

| Augustana – Sweet and Low Lyrics | 17 years ago |

i think either a. this song's about a guy who fell inlove with a girl signifigantly younger---maybe not even pedophile-ish, but you know, younger, more than a year or two, and she's beyond her years, she's the real thing, she's the one for him. he's been hurt by love before and because he's older, he's experienced how fragile a heart can be and has seen how cruel the world is. however, this girl is still so young and innocent, yet she's exactly what he needs and wants, but he's afraid that because she has yet to grow up a little more, she's going to "get out of line" and break his heart admist her naiveity and spontaneity during growing up. he wants to avoid it and run away but in his heart he knows that she's the one for him, and she's just what he needs. so he's saying "don't let me walk away from you...hold onto me...don't let me get away, even when i try to, make me stay" or b. the heaven/hell part. that doesnt relate much to my first meaning. so this song could have a whole nother meaning obviously relating to the fact that he feels like a failure and has done alot of wrong things, and he feels like he's closer to going to hell than heaven. and he either wants to kill himself so he's asking the girl to "hold him down" keep him going, be the reason he lives or else he's not actually thinking abt killing himself, but just feels like a failure at life in general, feels dirty and she seems to be the only person in his world to purify him. well this is a great song. i love it. the singer has so much passion and feeling in his voice...makes me feel it, get shivers. ahhhh |

some people have said that it's about a girl who think she's all that and eats up getting guys' attention like she's a bad person or a whore. i think this song is actually just about a confident girl who got old enough to realize that hey, she could get the boys! the writer likes this girl obviously, but she's flirting with a number of guys, not settling down. but he feels like there's a chance for them, it's just gonna take time for her to realize that he's the one stickin around when all the other guys just move on after a little flirtation or what not. it kind of reminds me of me lately actually; i've been flirting/hanging out with guys and realizing how much i have going for me, and i don't really like any of these guys very much, i'm just having fun, so i feel like i'm being a mean heartbreaker, but i'm a good person and i have good intentions, my "just having fun" is just hurting guys who actually like me or are interested or confused by me. haha. |

| Dashboard Confessional – Hands Down Lyrics | 17 years ago |

i love this song. it's definentely one of my top favourite songs ever. dashboard is amazing, his lyrics are amazing, he's talented, no doubt. this song reminds me alot of last summer, it's really weird, they almost fit my situation perfectly, and i even change around just a few of the words in the lyrics to fit, and it goes perfectly. what's neat is that even beyond the wonderful usage of words, his voice, his passion---you can feel and hear and seek out the passion in his song, the chords he chooses to strike, the tunes, pitches, everything makes you really feel what this song is about. he is talented beyond writing, he is talented with the whole song-making proccess. and in just about all, if not all of his songs, you can notice how passionate his voice is, and i adore that, i'd love to see dashboard live. anyways, when i'm not relating this song to my own situation, i imagine this guy being at a low-key party with some close friends, and the girl he's dating or interested in dating is there, and they get around to chilling out in a room alone together. they're friends are teasing them that chris is gonna get some...and they laugh it off, but the truth is that chris wants to have sex with her, but not to "get some", but because he loves her and takes it seriously, and i love how he sorta incorporates a joke about "Gettin some" into the song----anyways, it sounds to me like even before they were alone and had this party with friends, the girl and guy had a great day together, everything went perfectly and was fun, and it all led up to them being alone and being face to face with how they feel about each other, and he's thinking about all of the things that happened that day that made him realize how he's inlove with her, but also how amazing it is that she is inlove with him as well, hence the way she kissed him like she meant it. |

ps; i forgot to mention how i think the part "so brown eyes i hold you near, cause you're the only song i want to hear" and "if the silence takes you then i hope it takes me too" about those parts, they can be interpreted in so many ways i know, but to me it's about the songwriter recognizing the remarkable spirtuality of another, he sees how this other person seems so free and pure, and in complete silence, they seem to be able to connect with their soul, and he's hoping that if someone else can achieve such peace within his/her self, then there's hope that he can achieve internal peace too. and as far as the brown eyes goes: there's 3 different ways i take that: 1. he's talking about a girl he's with, or just a friend, or some random person he knows, he's talking about achieving the ultimate state of mind with someone else, not doing it alone, or 2. Jesus. Jesus, being from the middle least, probably had brown eyes. maybe he's talking about holding Jesus close, hearing Jesus' song as the only song he wants to hear, aka, His song being his words, His love, etc. "a melody softly soaring through my atmosphere" i take that as music tying in with the ultimate connection of body and soul, a melody that fits perfectly with the perfect state and body and soul connecting, a melody that may or not even be a song, but maybe the melody represents Jesus like i said, or just a sense of well-being. ahh, this song sparks so much thought in me, obviously. one of my favourite songs. EVER. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Soul Meets Body Lyrics | 17 years ago |

i love this song to death, it has this weird deep meaning to me that i can't even explain; it can indeed be interpreted in any way you like; to me, this song represents ultimate nirvana. ultimate happiness and peace and enlightment that is impossible to obtain in this world, in this life. even if it can be obtained, it's extremely hard in this hectic world; it reminds me of heaven, what it may be like in the afterlife, the point where your body ultimately correlates with your soul; where you are one with your whole self. i love this song because it's so deep, it makes you think about the meaning of life, and makes you forget about the shallow things and focus more on your soul and the depth of things. it reminds me of what i was a young kid in the 90's, the way i felt so free and innocent, whenever i took a bath after getting dirty from playing in the yard in the summer, i felt so cleansed, so renewed. it's hard to feel that way once you get older. so i imagine this song means something to the effect of feeling ultimately cleansed, your body and your soul, being completely pure. this song also makes me think of another dimension, a place where we can discover this kind of connection within ourselves, but once again, i imagine that this sort of cleanliness and pureness can only be sought after in this life, and can only be fully achieved in heaven. i love it. so much, this song sparks thought and i like that, death cab always has a way of doing that, and they are extremely talented and seem to enlighten people and shed light on subjects that everyone can relate with, and they write about things and feelings that everyone feels, but just can't pinpoint, but it's okay, because death cab does it for you, lays it all out in a song, and i'm glad for there to be such a band out there like that. |

in response to the lyric: "No one is alone the way you are alone" , yes, i agree that it does seem out of place, because the song goes on insinuating only the girl's possible problems, and doesn't mention chris', and that's why i think this lyric is indeed an example of irony; amongst all of the problems of the girl, possibly a terminal illness as others have said, abuse, etc...chris still has a problem too, though less visible. i think this lyric means that the girl has gotten to chris, deep inside of him, and she recognizes that she found the true him, she opened him up because maybe he shut himself off from other people before, and maybe she's afraid that he's going to close himself off again, and she doesn't want that for him because she's seen the imense difference between the way he was when they first met and the way he opened up when they got to know each other. anyways, that's my idea of it. |
