I agree with obscurusvita. I believe the song is about unrequited love. I can relate to it so much because I am there right now. It hurts so bad to realize that you what you thought was love was never real.

Well, I heard this song was written after both his parents had died and he felt completely alone. So often we just assume they will always be around; but that's not reality. I understand it because having lost a parent; you do feel this huge hole. And sometimes, just seeing your friends around their parents etc makes you feel the loss so much more. One time while making a short trip with a friend, we caught some bad weather. Upon arriving safely the relief shown across her mother's face. In that instant, I felt so sad because I knew I'd never be able to have that relief of seeing my own mom again. |

I guess that's how you started like a pin prick to my heart. At this point you rush right through me and I start to drown. Incredible Lyric! love starts a bit like a pin prick at first but becomes so much more!
I read something where Emily said that this is about someone who has lost the only love they ever really had and there is no relief because true love often knows no bounds. One of my other fave lines is where she writes
"This bitter pill I swallow is the silence that I keep." After awhile even your friends get tired of hearing about how you lost love. And in my opinion the writer knows she can't keep talking about it because it hurts her other relationships with friends too. |
