| Marilyn Manson – We're From America Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
As harsh as he's being, it's honestly true. Come to America and read a few newspapers. The lyrics are powerfully blunt, I'd say.
I think, if you interpret it in a way, the "where we eat our young" part could be referring to pop culture here in America. Youth generations in America are considered like, the trendsetters. The media caters to them. And people eat it up. Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, MTV...all of it. Even that lame suburban white kid look is now becoming prevalent.
"We believe in everything we say; we say it because we believe it" is a fallacy, begging the question to be exact.
Though I don't think he says, "I'm so sick of it now." Listen to it again. |

| Jewel – Stand Lyrics

This song has a strong sociological, and maybe even political, message.
Because our society tends to look at things with optimism, it usually overlooks reality. Sure, things don't seem all bad, but they're not exactly peachy ("It's not all dirty but it's not all clean"). To add to that, there's deception everywhere, in magazines, advertisements, even in authority figures.
The chorus has a sense of hopelessness to it. Sad, but it's what's portrayed in real life. "Mothers weep" probably refers to the drama parents go through, specifically those who live in meager conditions. Women whose husbands drink, beat them, or have outright left them. Those who barely have enough money to survive. Their "children sleep", too young and therefore oblivious to these emotional stressors that their parents experience day after day. |

For some reason, I think this song goes perfectly with the "All the Things She Said" video. Anyone agree? |

I think this song is about society's rather unhealthy addiction to drama. It's entertainment. The sideshow is a metaphor for the drama portrayed in media. People are captivated by tear-jerking stories and awful tragedies they hear on the news. And they feed off the sad stuff. They "can't afford to pass it by" because it's "guaranteed" to bring about emotion. They view the people in the sideshow attraction and use them as an outlet. But really, anyone can end up in that attraction. |

I found this a very difficult song to crack. I thought it was kinda similar to "Ty Soglasna" at first, but upon critically evaluating it, I've just gotten lost.
Here's what I'm just guessing. It's about two very close people, so close that they almost have some telepathic bond goin' on between them ("Everything that you feel is everything that I feel; so when we dream, we shout"). One of these two is always being exposed to a lot of "danger", while the other is not. In fact, that one might even be deprived of simple freedom. So, she always wants to "protect" the other one. Hell, someone could even see this whole song as a reference to all the scandal that went around Yulia when she was pregnant with her first child. Lena seemed to stay out of the scandal and the freakin' tabloids, but of course she was at Yulia's side. |

I think that it carries with it an anti-abortion message. I know, it's really subtle. Even if you ignore the video and just go by what's in the song, you can conclude that it's about taking care in pregnancy. A baby is very fragile. |

I think some of the second verse is incorrect. But I guess it's no big deal. We don't know the official lyrics. They haven't even released this song yet. They sang it at a few concerts, but it's not "official".
I love the reference to "Dangerous and Moving". Sweet. |

I don't know why a lot of t.A.T.u. fans hate this song. They say like, it's not their style or whatever. That's so stupid! The song stands out because of that! Oh, so the video is lacking in action. So what? The song is beautiful! |

I thought it was "Drive you wild". Heh-heh.
Its lyrics are almost like something you'd find in a tearful letter, like from someone who you used to be close with. I had no idea the meaning was this intense. |

The way I interpreted the overall song was that about a love between a boy and girl, both of which are supposedly too "young" to be thinking of such things. Maybe around ten years old or something. The girl wants to be with the boy, and vice versa. But "it's hard to be a boy if you're a girl, it's hard to be a girl if you're a boy." At these younger ages, boys and girls typically hang out with those in the same gender. A young boy is ridiculed by his peers as being sissy if he decides to play with the girl. A girl is a tomboy if she wants to play sports with the boy. These gender roles keep them apart. But, if she were a squirrel, and he were a bunny, it wouldn't really matter. Sure they'd be different, but they could frolic together all they wanted, without judgment, without a care in the world. Beautiful, beautiful song if you look at it that way. |

It's a junkie's song. The lyrics are just hidden within the pop feel. That's why I love it. Most people associate this song with teenage girls shopping and having fun or whatever. They don't listen! |

The chorus is what really speaks to me.
In a world of violence ("bullet in the heart") and senselessness ("brain on the door"), it's often the innocent who have to die for the purpose of exposing those who are guilty. In the video, Lena is a prostitute and yet gets to live, while Yulia dies just for being pregnant. "We'll put it in a box, we'll set it free" might be what the firing squad is doing, though of course they don't see it in that kind of light. |

It's about a one-sided relationship, where the singer is being ignored. The part that says "If we were on the moon, it could have been a little warmer" is a comparison to how cold this person is acting toward the singer. And the frustration shows in the lyrics. "What's not enough for you? Are you stuck to the wall?" Towards the end, in the last verse, it's like...hopeless. Whatever. Let them just lie down in the cold, and salvage what little thing they have left. |

The chorus is the most touching. It has like, this nature feeling to it. And how the sky being the only one there is, and will ever be. "New life takes breath, and life is cut off, while stars shine on." This planet will indeed change, and the only thing we'll share with future generations (according to the song) are the stars, the sky. |

It's those moments in life that are so pure it feels like childhood (it doesn't necessarily have to be). In a world of violence, endless stress, cynicism, and emotional scars coming left and right, it's very hard to see something as innocent as a child would see it. But when you do, it's beautiful in its purity. It's not stained with depravity or smut. And you should try to "hold on" to these moments, because they're rare. And just like that, they could be gone.
One of Avril's best, if not very best. |

First of all, I'd like to say that this is my favorite t.A.T.u. song, on a par with its Russian counterpart "Ludi Invalidi".
That said, the songs seem to be speaking basically about the same thing. The "bad" people around the world. The Russian version refers to them as invalid, lacking humane qualities (not physical handicaps). This version refers to what they do. Their "dangerous and moving" actions. Lena once said something in an interview along the lines of these people being like big ("looming") deisel trucks. Machines with moving gears whose actions are destructive ("perilous") and predictable. You can see their negative behavior coming.
The "living dead" part seems to speak for itself. |
