| 311 – Get Down Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Inspiration I've been waiting all my life I'm set free, it happened I won't look back and think twice It's How it's meant to be Something's happened A sudden slap in the right place In my face, I thank you You always came through for me It's how it's meant to be WOW! i was overwhelmed the first time i heard this. firstly, i feel the lyrics here are a bit off. between 311's lyric page, this one, and hearing the actual song, though, you can get a good idea of what the guys were trying to portray. i think it's interesting to note this is a bonus track. look at this from the POV of Nick. i believe the song speaks to the inspiration that is received in performance and the energy felt by 311 in it's purist environment:on stage. this album displays their talents in a new light, down to musical harmonic perfection (thanks to Bob) and encourages growth. one line i do want to point out that i see to be off: "and then i say what is this illusion? i CAN fix it, hey. just go straight into 'accept it' " and think about Nick's newborn daughter, Echo, as his inspiration in this song and it takes on a different kinda look, no better or worse, just a new spin :) |

| Israel Kamakawiwo’ole – Somewhere Over The Rainbow Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| this was played at my favorite english prof's funeral last week. it will never be the same to me... Iz nailed it when he put these two together. i read once that he woke up in the middle of the night, called a few friends to help him get out of bed, get his ukelele, and go to the recording studio... the songs merged in his dreams and he just started playing and singing... one take, improvisation, a masterpiece. it doesn't get much better than that. | |
| Israel Kamakawiwo’ole – In This Life Lyrics | 17 years ago |

| 311 – Long For The Flowers Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| tenclub, in answer to your question...no. dtom is just as timely and well-put together as every other 311 record. had it been a collaboration of old demos, it wouldn't have flowed nearly as well and each song would have had a different feel. also, if anyone's looking for an out on why they maybe didn't love dtom off the bat, it was rushed. and also, nick gave SA creative reign on this cd. nick just threw in a little input, suggested a couple melodies, and sang them how SA wrote them. | |
| Blind Melon – Mouthful Of Cavities Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| the cocaine and heroin may have been what killed him, but the cavities is definitely referencing meth. maybe you all aren't familiar with it, but this song and a couple more by the band quite clearly reference meth-amphetamines. | |
| 311 – Peaceful Revolution Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| oh, ps. the line is "...that once could SEND the tyrant to power" not sin | |
| 311 – Peaceful Revolution Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| this is a great song. i have no idea when or where it was recorded but i have a bootleg version that goes on every 311 mix cd i make myself. it's pure art. | |
| 311 – Freak Out Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i seriously am on the brink of tears every time i hear "if you don't have someone to..." in concert. and the energy that shakes every venue i've heard this in... it just overwhelms all. | |
| 311 – Evolution Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| wow...well put music94. i couldn't have said it better. i only want to add one thing. ignition and josh, if you can't find something positive to say without slamming 311 or one of their fans, then you are listening to the wrong music. go jack off to some korn or hatebreed. | |
| 311 – Light Years Lyrics | 17 years ago |

| A Perfect Circle – Blue Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
calling out the mushies, turning blue such a lovely color for you. psylocin, which is the substance in hallucinogenic mushies causing the "trip" happens to be the same thing that makes them turn blue when bruised. just throwin that one out there. MJK is a brilliant mind. i wish i could have a conversation with him. i have some very important questions regarding existence and philosophy which i would love to ask him. this song's been beat to death with different interpretations and opinions. i find it amusing and ironic that the song states "best to keep things in the shallow end" and yet we continue to beat the dead horse. we know it has multiple meanings but i don't think MJK meant for us to take it for much more than face. don't take him too deep. he as a person is deep, but observe his music from the surface, the most shallow perspective and the underlying metaphors will come into plain sight. |

| 311 – Unity Lyrics | 18 years ago |

i agree w/ mrtitymas 100%. Edification will take place. Pull up the reigns. And get out of the race. my bros are down for the UNITY! 311 is down for the UNITY! it doesn't get much better than that. |

| 311 – Visit Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this is one of my all time favorites. it's simple. it's straightforward. "Cruise on by the frowners float follow me now with a smile." i can't hear it without rockin out. it get's no better...i wanna visit the world | |
| 311 – Firewater Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| it's obvious the kid is him. i like the way 311unity said it "a public service." that's exactly what he's doin. hey, don't get me wrong. cocaine can be fun, and gettin wasted and goin to bars is cool, especially when you're 19 and you feel invincible. but heed the wisdom words of experience: cocaine and alcohol don't mix. it's a good way to keel over quick. my favorite line: "you're eyes are wide open but your smile is gone. you just keep fiendin til the fuckin break of dawn" like killa said, nick is spot on. | |
| Flobots – Handlebars Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i just heard this for the first time tonight. i'm making a lot more sense of it than i did an hour ago when i heard it on the radio. and votrebeaureve, you're absolutely right about the "have 'em all heal..." line. i say this because ... hand out vaccinations, obviously a positive; die from exasperation- neg.; healed from lacerations would be positive to continue the trend; and finally killed by assassinations being neg. is the point where it spins out of control. | |
| 311 – Sometimes Jacks Rule The Realm Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
mallorypmm...the emperor reference is talking about the children's story about the emperor who is foolish enough to buy "invisible clothes" then goes parading through his empire naked. the emperor's clothes were never exposed because he wasn't wearing any. he took the pointing and staring by the people as a compliment regardless what they really meant. i think part of the song is saying the good ole "ignorance is bliss." and the line "dangling precipitents" i personally think nick says "dangerously precipitent" because of the next line "raining down idiots" ALWAYS FLAPPIN IN THE FLAPPIN IN THE WIND! this was my fave from 311 for years. much love to the omaha stylists. |

| 311 – Loco Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"i'm glad you're here, i have no fear" because shrooms are so much better in a group of your closest friends. drastic is the perfect word to describe the indescribable psybin trip. "elbow pull and kick" can only be understood by someone who has taken a lot of shrooms in one "sitting" and then couldn't sit down for 8-12 hours. i really want to hear this one live. and yes, 311 live is the only way to watch them, especially on shrooms. 311 day with psilocybes has been my greatest life experience to date. |
|
| 311 – I Told Myself Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i'm surprised no one has commented the possibility of this song relating to addiction, something nick knows all too well. certain parts of the song point directly to a relationship, but just like every song of desire and love, it has traces of an addict coming clean. in the line starting at "this was supposed to be the last time..." the uniform rhythm of the guitar and bass, along with lyrics, makes me think of addiction irking at an addict, nagging. it just keeps coming back over and over until tempo breaks pace. | |
| 311 – Uncalm Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
look, there's no point in argueing whether it's a girl he talks about or a drug, b/c nick is so good at writing love songs, the song could purtain to either. if it's a drug, though, it's not pot. the salvador dali honeymoon, the scales of desire lines, and the hook all make me think he's talkin about mushies. i love this song when i'm trippin. it paints a lot of lyrical pictures in my head that makes love feel right. surfnaked...u should turn the knob down on the "matter-of-fact"ness. look at from chaos (the album) as a whole. it's obvious, to me at least, that it was very inspired by shrooms. from chaos comes clarity, i told myself, and uncalm paint the picture plainly. |

| 311 – Eons Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
i have to diddo Raspler's comment "to the T" and i also want to say this song reached me on a new level just a month ago at 311 day in NO. the lights, the lasers, the power of the melody, lyrics, and guitar all culminated at an apex of a mushroom trip. and wow! i know what nick means when he says "feels like standing still, for eons and eons." p.s. raspler, are you a real raspler and are you swedish? |

| 311 – Galaxy Lyrics | 18 years ago |

i think it is no coincidence that long ago, the writers of the Bible (namely, John author of Revelation) chose 666 as the "Mark of the Beast". Then, a couple thousand years later, we gained the ability to break things down molecularly and noticed what SA is making plain as day: carbon, the building block of this "plane" and ALL life, and its predictability and characteristics in decay are slowly becoming the Devil to the Christian church. Carbon symbolizes the science side of our existence and it has already disproved the timeline of the Bible's account of creation. I find it also amusing that our search for life across the galaxy can be broken down to a search for carbon and water (cough cough God, that which gives us life). ps. i thought this was blatantly obvious, but maybe not so let me spell out verse 2. "this paradigm" is the example of our grandparents and parents which we've been living by our whole lives. they were born into a society where the fossil fuels were the obvious and most effecient choice of energy source. society was conditioned into this way of thinking for generations and soon we'll be paying for it. The "free energy" we have harnessed is that of the Sun. Unfortunately, as SA says, the technique has been supressed so our use of the Sun's energy is limited. Our good ol' government set aside subsidies for experimentation with solar energy and put it on the backburner because we already had a great source of energy. But, now they're going back and realizing...hey, if we take all this oil and coal out of the Earth, she's not going to be very happy with us. Maybe we should take another look at solar energy and put oil consumption on the backburner. We've been watching the granules fall through the hourglass for years. We need to break this stupid psycle and fuck up the paradigm. The only way to make change happen is to take action. Rearrange the way we live, and don't sit around talking about change. Make it happen, and soon, we'll ditch the dumb shit! thanks Eonic. i like how you make me Reconsider Everything. |
