This is a really powerful song. It goes from feats we accomplish as children "no handlebars" onto the power we have when we're older and ultimately to the extreme level of power that a person can have (leader of the free world) and how it can be easy to be corrupted by the incredible power to destroy the world. The love how his voice changes throughout the song. It goes from being innocent and from a child's POV and how he's saying these things for attention, to a little more urgent and good intentioned about all the good things he can do until it finally comes to the end when he's almost angrily screaming about all this power he has and all the choices he has. |

I agree with thequiettype. The more I listen to this song, the more I almost can't stand it. It's a good song, I think it's really catchy and everything, but I just really don't like the lyrics. The girl he's singing about doesn't seem like a good catch and the lyrics paint him as naive with the way he's hopelessly obsessed with this girl who, as thequiettype pointed out, isn't that appealing. "Yeah he's a looker/But I really think it's guts that matter most/I displayed them for you/Strung out about from coast to coast/I am easily make-believe/Just dress me up in what you want me to be" Those lyrics nearly make me cringe because, to me, it screams of naivety that he's comparing the other guy's looks with his personality when the two are not comparable. And the fact that he's stating how he'd conform to whatever she wanted him to be and change who he is so she'd come back to him just makes me embarrassed for him. "Why can't you just love me back?" This line bothers me too because my interpretation is that he's so stuck on this one girl that he can't understand why she won't reciprocate his feelings. It just annoys me that he seems to make it sound like it's should be simple for her to love him without taking into account that it's completely over. But, I guess that's the point. |

| I really think this song is about getting back into dating after suffering a break-up and realizing that finding someone special again is hard. So he's giving up but then he realizes that "you'll always get burned, but you'll never give it up." | |
