I absolutely love emmylou harris in this version. it's so beautiful, It makes me so happy. I think this song is just about like everything that is beautiful but gets fucked up some way. And there's also a theme of peace and how it doesn't seem to ever work, obviously... like when the kids shot him dead. just goes to show what we are raising our new generations with yeah? gaaah I love you connor. |

I think the part where he says "Now men with purple hearts carry silver guns And they'll kill a man for what his father's done But what my father did, no, it don't mean shit I'm not him" I think the purple means greedy, purple symbolizes royalty and rich. I kinda took this in a way of what people will do for money (AMERICA..) idk if he's talking about america in this verse but I definitely think this is talking about how men will kill men over money |
