I kind of feel the opposite. It seems more about someone who DOES believe in God, but what have they done with that belief? A belief in a loving God, but with actions that are purely for self-gratification? I think it speaks volumes about the Church and how it's become something we do to make ourselves feel better about ourselves, rather than to show the only thing Jesus ever preached; Love. To me, it seems "the lie" is more of the thought that this is the only way to live, by the "laws" taught to us when we were young. We're taught that God loves us all, but we don't show that love. We show judgement. Kind of a "Look at all 'good' things I do, and look at all the 'bad' thing you do" mentality. That same mentality that has gotten the Church to where it is today, thought badly of and attacked by those people that Jesus taught us to love. It seemed to me to be the story of someone, not necessarily turning their back on the church, but more on the teachings that have been twisted for self gratification, Of course, this is just my opinion, and what I got out of it. It's art, and it's interpretation is solely based on the individual perspective. Never the less, it's an amazing song, and they're are truly a talented group of guys. |

| This song seems to be about a lot of different topics. i would say the leaving of ones family definitely. But it seems very broad as far as what else. there's definite disappointment from the family of how their child has strayed from a the teachings that the parents raised him on. But I think it's not so much one thing as it is about many things that people go through. Drugs, Alcohol, Cutting, Homosexuality, all these things can bring shame to a family, depending how you were raised. Now I don't really know what they are specifically talking about, some of you seem to, but this is just what I got from it. Coming from a Christian upbringing, I was taught that many things were wrong, where as now i don't necessarily agree with those teachings. And this song came at a perfect time in my life. I just started my own life 1200 miles away from any family member, and the majority of my friends, so maybe it's just the circumstances that I am in that make me here this song this way. But isn't that the beauty of music. It's always different for every person. | |

songs like scripture have different meaning for different ppl. maybe the song is a mix between alot of yall's views. maybe it's someone who has had religion forced upon them, not christianity. to use a quote from the book "Lord save us from your followers" so many ppl have faith in the bible, instead of God. they're too focused rules and religion and RITUALS, they forget the main thing Jesus came to teach us, and that was to love each other. so many ppl cast judgement and damnation onto ppl. it just turns ppl away from god. thats not christian. Jesus came to love. but so many of us are too worried about following all the rules that we forget what it's all about... |
