I think at the basic level its about someone very holy, very good, being corrupted by evil and ruining himself to the point of no return. The music video shows an angel finding the Bible Black and it drags him down and even though he attempts to make it back into heaven, he can't leave the book behind and he becomes a demon. This is such a heavy song that reaks of the kind of evil only Black Sabbath can create. I don't care that they're with Dio, they'll always be Black Sabbath. Black Sabbith IS heavy metal! |

James has said himself its a return to the H. P. Lovecraft mythology. Its about the Hounds of Tindalos. They hunt you in your dreams and can travel through time and space so you can never escape. |

Your half right The song is meant to be literal Because the album its from is a concept album. This song takes place after the Setians have Clouded (AKA brainwashed) humanity into forgetting where they came from, and creating different languages and religions to divide mankind. |

To vlakarados: I don't think its talking all about one thing I think he's mainly talking about the evil in all of us. Lured your children never found - Might be talking about kidnap/murder of children. Helped your kings abuse their crowns - Corruption in government. This is my favorite song of the album, and one of Metallica's best ever. This album is no master of puppets and it doesn't try to be, its an amazing album in it's own right. |

Its about a woman who was drowning Then some guy jumped in to save her, and he ended up drowning instead and she feels horrible about it. He waits for her on the other side and she wants to cross over to meet him. |

Some people read too much into this Its not about the end of the world or humanity. It could on some level, but for the most part its about hunting farms (I don't know what the correct term is) where animals are caged in an outdoor area so the hunter has pretty much a 100 percent chance at getting a kill. It takes the sport out of hunting because it takes away the animal's chance at survival. Where it says "Technology the battles unfair" is wrong, its "Aknowledging the battle's unfair" because the animal has no chance to run away or fight back. This kind of hunting is what the song means when Dave sings "The hunt is canned" as in canned in. |
