T.I. – Whatever You Like Lyrics 16 years ago
The tone is tongue-in-cheek. Of course he isn't serious...that's why its great! He shows the obnoxiousness of the behavior by portraying it "seriously." It increases the power of the message...does that have a literary name, playwrites? Like Nero playing the violin while Rome burned...juxtaposition? I am a bit of a feminist and I love this song.

Kid Cudi – Day 'n' Nite (Nightmare) Lyrics 16 years ago
The flip side of the depression-laden, hopeless, solutionless brick wall is hope and the realization that ANYTHING can be overcome...a stress-free, light-as-air, endlessly hope-filled other side...but how do you convince the person who hopelessly stares at the endless, ugly brick side day and night??!! I now welcome depression as a natural feeling like being tired or hungry...I fear it no more than a sneeze...can't wait to see the beauty waiting on the other side...

The connection I had with this song is about something that is bothering the person that the singer is talking about (really himself-says both "he" and "I"). He cannot escape it and goes through day and night with it. "Game we play" - covering up, conceiling it; "look for peace, don't attain, magnet attracting, trying to run," etc. - conflict. The turmoil is real, but there is no solution. Times in life like that really suck, by the way. I don't think he states what the cause of the turmoil exactly is. On top of this, there is unrequited love. So he smokes a whole lot of weed. The Lonely Stoner...seeks the solution where there is none. (Of course, anything can be overcome!)

T.I. – Dead And Gone Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this song so eloquently expresses what I long to express - and I am jealous. I wish I could write songs. I get chills when I hear "that part of me left yesterday the heart of me is strong today. No regrets im blessed to say the old me dead and gone away" and "the old me is dead and gone, the new me will be alright." It describes, in a very sincere way, the paradigm shift (change) that happens when part of you dies, but the new you lives on. Awesome.

Gnarls Barkley – Crazy Lyrics 17 years ago
When some things about life are revealed, one was completely oblivious to it before...it is also so personal it cannot be explained. When you realize there are things greater than yourself, you realize your ego doesn't control everything. Usually poeple have to be in some kind of tough spot or unusual situation to look beyond for these solutions. Is it really breaking down illusions or is it crazy?

If I was Irish, I would be offended by this song, but I'm not.

Ween – Roses Are Free Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree with demeatloaf's line of thinking. It also is a stab at the social actions people go through without meaning, just to appear normal, like putting up a Christmas tree, telling your spouse you love him, etc. when it is not heartfelt. It is a nice bit of sardonic humor to say the perfect people who adhere to these traditions and are apprearing as "perfect Americans" also are resisting an urge to kill. At the end, he says take the empty symbol of a pumpkin and throw it at the other empty symbol of the tree and just eat the damn pie and forget all about the pretenses.

I don't know, "don't shit where you eat" is a (c'mon English/language people) saying purposely meant to be not a euphamism...does it really belong in a song?

I think this song is hilarious. This band, like They Might Be Giants, is funny! Don't you think children seeing an eye descending from the sky as a sign from God is funny? I think of the Osbournes show on MTV and Ozzie chasing nine dogs around and yelling "Sharon!" and I crack up.
