Yeah it def is. Its from the opening scene of the movie where the kid is talking to his dad. You can find the whole movie on youtube. I'm sure its a reference becuase another one of this band's songs "They looked Like Strong Hands" is also a famous quote from the movie. Whoever writes their lyrics must have been a big fan of the movie. I'd guess there are more references to the movie than the two I've mentioned but I haven't really looked at all their lyrics. |

I think that the song is about living a non-traditional life as a musician. He's bailing out of the rat race (normal, boring jobs) to be a musician because its more fun. The lines about not liking someones face and the rat race seem to mean he just doesn't want a normal life.
The undertow part is about how once he took that step he is getting pulled in. In other words, once you bail on a normal life for pursuing a passion like music, you can never go back because you'll never want to go back. |
