Not totally sure about all the symbolism, but I think hopesoforyou is on the right track. I just wanted to point out how awesome it is that the whole 'feeling' of the song changes right after they find God. After the line "broke the news to mom: we found a better Mom we call God", the refrain changes from 'no more timothy hay' to 'what a beautiful God there must be'. I think it is about escaping the meaninglessness of this life by finding that there is so much more. Life in God is joyous and beautiful rather than unrewarding and distraught. |

I was gonna say that I can't believe there are no comments in the Crash section, but I can. They are far from popular, which is sad. Anyway, the song in a very small nutshell is about Christ bringing truth and joy to life where everything else fails. |

So I totally agree that this song is about a girl, but there is another side to it. As a Christian your life should be about God not yourelf, every aspect is for Him. So a Christian relationship is ultimately about sharing His love and also growing closer to God. Your partner should provide a picture of God and help you to learn and support you in your walk, and you should do the same for her (him). A Christian love song should reflect this, and I think this song does that. So, while the song is about his love for an amazing girl, you just can't take God out of it. That's my two cents on one of my favorite songs ever. |
