This is interesting. Only thing that doesn't really make sense is the sequencing and flow of the lyrics. The speaker has "remained by (his/her) side," since "the day (he/she) arrived," so it doesn't make sense that the mother would have "arrived." I see it more of a relationship/deep love for someone that has "entombed" the speaker. |

playitloud has it right. Dustin said this about the song in a recent interview:
For me, the song is talking about the idea of the Law, which is what God would command. It is beautiful, but it’s also treacherous in the fact that we can’t live up to it. It’s pretty much the difference between the Law and the Gospel. The Law is translated and the Gospel is what he gives, and that’s kind of where the song ends, is that transition. |

he said in an interview that the verses are a fictional story about infidelity, while the chorus is more of a questioning of morality and right vs. wrong. |

it's "a light and momentary pain" not "lie in momentary pain." listen to the acoustic version! |

Ghostly, its awesome that you pointed out the idea that its in human nature to hate and kill, since Thrice themselves expanded upon that idea with "all the world is mad" |

Well this song is written by mentally challenged drop outs.
There are also no pelicans in Michigan. They are just ignorant talentless rappers.

it's crystal bay. I'm from Michigan and have been there. As for this song, I am truly happy that it exists. This is pure comedy, funnier than anything Dane Cook could even dream of. SNL was right on doing a parody of this; what ignorant, unfortunate souls this "posse" is. |

i don't know how it's possible for one man to craft so many deep, beautiful, image-filled songs. this one is no exception, all of the sea imagery is fantastic. "ribs will raise cathedrals for the morning mass" may be my favorite |

existentialism is so profound...it's truly the single most important question in the world: Why are we here? Why isn't there just nothing? |

the word "nut," when used as an intransitive verb, means to gather nuts. so according to this rather inspirational and revealing song, when a dog does not have a bone, it gathers nuts. thank you, baha men. |

it's not eminem's fault he got to be so popular...some might say other bands deserve the respect he gets for being rebellious, and that is definitely true, but that doesnt mean eminem doesnt deserve it. His becoming famous is just a testament to how good he really is... |
