I believe the song deals with living and dying (a common theme in their music I've noticed) as well as commenting (and possibly lamenting) on how humans are just one part of a greater cycle and all we can really do is just live our life the best we can ("respecting the animals" as they are part of the same cycle) and do what we love (or be with those we love) until we can't anymore: "Don't turn away from what you love
Soon you'll be finding it's much too tough" because no matter what we do in our lives, in the end: "May we all turn into leaves that crack and break apart." I don't think they necessarily look at this as a depressing thing, just a truth that should be realized to keep on the right path. |

The lyric "Take these chains away that are holding me down" always makes me think of the Hindu philosophy that life is merely a struggle to reach death and Nirvana or in this case Eternal Rest, but obviously if there is just one meaning in this song a Hindu philosophy probably isn't it. |

The song meaning is easy to interpret but it doesn't mean that this song only has a single focus in a specific time. It depends entirely on the perspective, obviously this song is about war, but some people are shooting down talks that try to relate it to The Crusades. Um, The Crusades were just a bunch of military conflicts (i.e. war). Since the lead singer of A7X has several close friends that have served in Middle East conflicts his perspective on a much broader and often untouched topic is reflected. The notion that soldiers who have seen combat are hard to integrate back into society has been around since war itself has. Don’t just limit it to today, it’s a theme of humanity. |
