| Whoa, I hope this isn't your life. I hope this isn't anyone's life. If I'm not mistaken this song is about a father molesting his young daughter, who doesn't know any better until the last verse. | |

Okay, I just listened to the long version and okay, the lyrics on here are right (or mostly right, I think) but now the song has a totally different meaning, one of which relating to the lyrics "I don't want to live in your side, though the rose is vermillion." I think that means he doesn't want to be a thorn in the girl's side, though he loves her and has passion for her (vermillion basically being red, which symbolizes love and passion in roses and other things). That's all i've got right now. But it's genius! lol P.S. This guy's voice is amazing . . . For some reason whatever he sings makes me think of the 30s and 40s (particularly "Lavinia" and "Talk Down the Girl", for some reason) and it makes me sad because then I get reminded of the movie Atonement. Strange? |

all right . . . i hear completely different lyrics to this song and i can't find any other than this version on the internet, so i'm going to post what i hear and say what i think they mean. ( * = a line i've changed) See my love is asleep on the floor In a pose that's familiar * See my son we'll just send you to war * If the bottle don't kill you (what they've got up here just makes no sense to me) I've a change in mind Calling all the time * But I don't want to live at your side * Though the rose is familiar (i guess he might actually say vermillion now i'm really listening for it, but i originally thought familiar so that's what i'm putting) Cause I find it so hard to survive Without when within you My sweet Lavinia My sweet Lavinia * All my children asleep on the floor * And a fire in the winter * I don't know if I've been there before * But the color's familiar * I've an age in mind??? * Calling all the time For my sweet Lavinia Okay . . . Basically I always get this idea of a guy married to a woman he doesn't love and he pines for Lavinia. Mostly because of how I thought he said "but I don't want to live at your side, though the rose is familiar", which I took to mean his wife's you-know-what is familiar to him, easy to access sort of thing, but he really want's Lavinia's you-know-what but he can't have it for whatever reason. But if the word is actually vermillion I have no idea what it means . . . As for the rest of the lyrics, I haven't really thought about them beyond the context of the meaning I already suggested. And I don't know what he means by the war lyrics in the beginning . . . I'm probably totally off anyway. Songs never mean what I think they mean. |
