i always thought it said "don't let her see your cardinal lines" like on a compass, which i took as meaning don't let her be able to read you. I like it that way better. I think the song is about secretly loving somebody or wanting to be with them, but never telling them because you think it would spoil the whole thing. So you love this person but "can't" have them so you just distract yourself by hooking up with random people you don't care about and that don't care about you. but I could just be projecting... |

I agree with shotgunn.. I think the lyrics are awesome, I can relate to them. "When I feel alive I try to imagine a careless life a scenic world were all the sunsets are all breathtaking" wishing life were simpler and you had time to admire the beauty in the world instead of dealing with the complexity and complicated-ness of life. beautiful |

the way I thought about it.. maybe the song is saying that what we see and what is going on in the world now is kind of a reflection of reality, or a kind of detached reality, like looking at something in a mirror, it's not what's actually there, it's just an image of it. And the mirror being black, the reality that we see is dark. I feel like it's saying man has taken the world and made it darker and less real. I think that goes with the Arcade Fire theme pretty well, also |

I think that this just might be my favorite song. And I don't have a favorite anything. It was introduced to me through a mix this guy I was secretly in love with made for me, it was really the best mix ever. The song kinda describes how I was feeling at the time. I was working through the summer and about to go back to school and not go back to work there, and I was at the end of a relationship that wasn't really working anymore. Ahhhhh that's all I can think about every time, makes me sad to listen, but it's an awesome song. Maybe he put that song on there to say how he felt?? nah doubtful |
