| don't know how I feel about mae's recent stuff. Don't get me wrong I love may, DB has to be by far my favorite album of all time, everglow is fantastic too but I just don't know if their new stuff is clicking with me. i dont see how this has religious references. #1 mae is not a christian band so to say this is about god is a bit of a stretch. i think its about a relationship that he made mistakes in but loves the girl... he doesn't know what is in the future for them because of their past... he wishes he can just make everything right... and just let go of the past. | i think when the song was written, they didn't have a plan on who it was for. so there is no need to argue if its about god/relationship/fans or just life in general. this is why mae is an amazing band because it can appeal to so many people. it doesn't really take side or anything. | |

dont think this is about holding hands with god... lol. not even metaphorically. its definitely a girl. dave even said in interviews, he write songs about life and our experiences with it. its not a religious band nor does it sing about god. it can be interpretted that way because well... he is writing about life, and if you believe that life is created by god then your bound to make the connection with god if you chose to. |

oh man this song gives me the shivers :) fantastic song... about growing up and growing into a serious loving relationship. the age 23 is a confusing age, we are deciding on what to do with our lives, and dealing with a lot of love troubles... i think anyone in that age who has gone through ups and downs of a serious relationship knows what this means. |

This can mean whatever you want it to mean. Mae is NOT a christian band, but they do sing about spiritual love, belief, etc etc... its not specifically god but its not simply about a girl either. so you can interpret this song however you want, as god or a girl or friend. whatever it is, thats why mae is awesome. if your not a christian you can get just as much out of this as a christian. <3 mae |

this is a great song... straight forward but its good. I think its about a couple going through relationship problems, even though they truly care and love each other but there are problems in a relationship that both party wishes to fix but cant. i can really relate to this. my gf and I have had a really rough months, we got into a few near breakup fights. and I truly care for her and i know she cares for me, but there are just somethings I feel like I can't give her to maintain a relationship even though i desperately want to. god this song speaks to so many couples going through problems in their relationship even though neither one wants to hurt the other. grrrr im so frustrated and I just want to play this song for her, it speaks for everything I want to say to her. |

i feel like it could just be about life in general. be what you are really about, follow your own instincts. the engine in the body is you, your mind, instinct. its not working because so many people are being controled by the people around and not being true to themselves. the song is like saying, dont worry about what other people say or think, you only live once, so you have to live true to yourself. making your move doesnt have to be on a girl, it could just be making a move to better yourself in life. and taking it for granted, is just taking granted for the life we are given, so why be fake just to please others? surprised at the little comments this song receives. i really dig this song because I'm 19 and know what it feels like to be fake just to be please others. i've done it, i've seen it... this is a very uplifting song and i absolutely love it :) |

I think its about a girl who gives and gives, she trusts everyone and looks for someone to love her back. Shes calling people from across the world its almost like, shes willing to give her love to anyone regardless who they are, but shes repeatedly taken advantage of "such an icy feeling" like shes in a lonely place, trying receive love by giving love to people she hates but still doesnt give up. Says a lot about our human nature, how we live on social connection and, much like food, we cant live without being with others. (I'm taking social psych) very good song :) |

I listened the shins before watching the movie... and loved them. I also heard the song in the Scrubs OST... anyways, I think I've definitly changed in one way or another since the movie and the song. so what if its played on the radio, I think its great. |
