| the lyrics seem pretty self-explanatory to me. he's always anticipates when he gets to see this girl, but gets very little time alone with her ("Those precious minutes when she is mine As we walk from my front door to her car"). The rest of the time they spend around other people, but the only person he really wants to be with is her. He's got a hundred ways lined up in his head of how to tell her the way he feels, but voicing them wouldn't make any difference since she wouldn't feel the same. he's come close to just saying it, but he's too afraid of hearing the rejection ("I've come this far But I can't go through with it because the truth would hurt too much"). so he just gives up and lets her leave, staying where he is and trying to find something new, and he'd try harder if he thought it would make any difference ("And try to make a seed grow And I would pray for rain If I thought that that would help") but no one would be as good as her. | |

| i kind of see it as offering support to someone you really care about, whether the relationship between the two people is romantic, a friendship, or a like a parent to their child. the only thing they care about is that this person is happy, so they're willing to do all they can for them but if the person feels it's not enough and finds something better, they want them to know that it's okay. it's okay because all the want is what's best for this person they care about so much. | |

okay, so i'm going to analyze this song by how i interpret it based on my own opinion and experience..here goes... "There is nothing for which I am responsible Just this baggage that I keep carrying on as if I had someone" -it feels like he's got no purpose because it's just him all alone and he's got no one to take care of. he sometimes gets sad and depressed as if he had someone to get depressed over but he doesn't. "Ok, maybe there is a woman somewhere Who's still thinking of me Or a girl with coal black hair Who's haunted in her dreams But what they've seen, well, it wasn't me It was just some lie that they slept beside I kept this from them but I can't keep this from you" -there might be someone somewhere he's been with that misses him and misses being with him, but the person they were with wasn't really him. he could hide himself from those women but he can't hide himself from this one person. "So will you look for me in that strange, bright place Where the statues bloom in the park? They don't need no rain" -personally i would see this kind of as that place in her head where she goes to get away from everything and just think of her happiest, most desirable dreams. it's like he's asking if she'll be thinking of him in this wonderful way. "Because how I ever got to you, I have no idea It's like some secret door, well, it just appeared So, no matter what I do from now on with my time You will always stay here in my mind I am certain of this and I am not certain of anything" -it's like he's saying i don't know how i was even lucky enough to meet you. the fact i had the chance to even be with you was amazing, and i'm not certain of much but i know i'll never forget you. "So I want to get myself attached to something bolted down So that these winds of circumstance won't keep blowing me around To when I land to when I leave there is enough time to sleep and sing I keep running when all I want is to lay motionless" -even though i loved you, things were too unstable and got really rocky at times. i'd like something constant, someone that will always be there for me to spend my time with. i just want to relax and be in love. |
