Sounds more to me like the speaker is speaking as the voice of the upcoming youth generation's potential. Of course the theme of positive or negative potential is very evident, I think he's speaking more from the perspective of a new generation rather than the (noted) powers of the current administration. |

Or... the song is an allegory to Wuthering Heights. The speaker is pretty much expressing Heathcliff's more tender side, which comes in the form of his true love for Catherine. |

The theme of the song is the speaker defiling something pure. Whether the speaker be humanity singing about Mother Earth as the flower, or a guy who took virginity from an impressionable girl ("there's a point we pass from which we can't return") the lyrics all point, in any interpretation, to the defilement of something innocent by something either too ignorant or too inexperienced to realize what it's doing. |

This song is definitely about the duality of life, the first verse establishes that all good must come to an end (and therefore have a genesis to begin with) and the last verse establishes that all bad must come to an end (and of course, also have a genesis.) Greatly symbolic song. |
